So your adult son should be making a hefty contribution to the bill then?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

To justify the Customer Services rep hanging up on me, I am now in the midst of a 'disagreement' with BT on their own forums about me stating if I am recording a call, ie. at the beginning, middle or end of a conversation. Any advice I can give them?

I tried to quote Truecall and another valuable source by saying the following, I have had a machine for 3 years, am I wrong?
    Is call recording lawful?
You will often find that people are not sure of the lawfulness of recording telephone conversations. The answer is that in the United Kingdom you are entitled to record your telephone conversations and you do not have to give warnings to the other side. However you are not allowed to use those recordings commercially or publicly. You may however, use them for private purposes and certainly to use a telephone recording to show that the other side has ignored or betrayed an agreement or has committed some other wrongdoing, is certainly permitted under UK law.
  • Do note there is a way around the limit - each BT router also acts as a BT wifi hotspot for public use. (i.e you can use free wifi all around the country where it is availiable) You can log onto your own BT hotspot and it doesn't count against your usage - admittedly its a slower speed but it is fine for general surfing/emails etc.

As far as I can tell, and from the quote you posted, there is no need to tell anyone you are recording. If they ask why, you can merely say "peace of mind".

I am not sure why they would be in dispute with you about this?
(Unless they don't know what hey are talking about - heaven forbid!)
    Seems remarkably straight forward.
