At this point I'm not believing any information Boots puts out, or what anyone says their mother's cousin's friend heard who works at boots. Doesn't matter what they heard, employees have been receiving and spreading bad info all along. Even when the sale was apparently set for yesterday, before that time boots staffers had not only said it would be yesterday, but also that it was coming up but no date had been set, that there wouldn't be one at all, and that there would never be one again.

If I were boots and were going to do this sale but intended to keep away the minority who descend at opening with bin bags clearing entire shelves and being rude to staff, I'd only tell managers about the sale and swear them to secrecy. No real need for other staff to know in advance, any clearing or organizing of shelves can be done without staff knowing it prefaces a reduction. I'd also not start the online sale until mid-day after it already started in-store so as not to tip anyone off. At this point it's anybody's guess if it will happen.

To be honest, I am now past caring. I had my Xmas money but it is now dwindling down due to other shops having many lovely bargains, so it is Boots loss not mine as I shall spend my money elsewhere. Thanks Boots you have done me a favour and at least I know now!!! :T

you make a very good point and if i was mr boots i would do it ilke that but i really hope he does not read this and start the sale like that :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
  • I posted a couple of days ago on 'Shop but don't drop' thread that I overheard 2 assistants in the Exeter High St store that they'd heard there wouldn't be any further reductions this year. Looks like they were right :(

my local boots has hundreds upon hundreds of boxes of crhistmas crackers still, can't imagine they're going to sell at half price as places like tesco, sainsbury, asda, wh smith etc have been selling them for 75% off for weeks now...
perhaps the op's info was indeed pubilished by boots to put people off waiting so that they can sell stuff at 50%...
the most sensible thing for boots to do would be to make further christmas line reductions to be at the discretion of individual stores, rather than one date for all, that way it'll be more fair and no major rushes on, so perhaps they are doing that?
their current way they arbitrarily still have christmas kit still in abundance in store almost a month after the big day is beyond me, why on earth don't they clear out a lot of it a lot sooner, who is still thinking of buying cards and crackers when it's going to be valentines day in a month?

    I've been Money Tipped!
Well, I'm glad I went to Boots straight after the school run yesterday.

I had mooch round the 4 long shelves of 50% off items and saw a few bits I would only buy if they were 75% off. Made me realise that, if there is to be a 75% off sale, then I'd be better off spending my time at home or not trying to buy stuff at 75% off that was overpriced in the first place.

I am not a mother's cousin's friend. I work at Boots myself. This was a copy of a printed-out memo from Head Office I saw with my own eyes. Unless this is an elaborate ploy by my store to throw staff off the scent then I think it's safe to say there probably won't be a sale. I'm sorry to ruin the bargain-hunting party for you but I was just passing on information which I thought other people might find useful.

The sale was never 'set' to start yesterday, that was a presumption made by a lot of people who were basing their predictions on the fact it started at a similar time last year.
  • Don't you think Boots are just saying there's no plans for a 75% sale so those of us who do want things pay the 50% off price?? They need to move the stock at some point !

I'm not sure why everyone is so willing to believe this. It's just another one of so many rumours. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not, who knows.
