I bought a couple of tins of pease pudding recently as I've never tried it before, but what are you supposed to serve it with? Looks like it goes with pork, but any other ideas?0

I have just read about pease pudding and it sounds damn tasty!
I fancy making pease pudding - never made it before...any good recipes? I read a few recipes online but thought I would ask my fellow OSers. I was going to make it, them pop it in the freezer - well after eating some of it.
I have a ham hough in the fridge so perhaps I could do something together.0 -
I make pease pudding in my slow cooker but I used to do it on the hob. I use a 500g bag of split yellow peas - soak overnight - into a pan/slow cooker together with a chopped onion and a ham hock/bacon joint and just cover with water (may have to add more if cooking on the hob).
I love it with ham sandwiches or ham salad. It freezes well too.0 -

My MIL often adds pease pudding to tinned peas when heating them up. Makes a thicker sauce. I often add a good 'dollop' to soup for extra flavour and thickening, and we used to have it served quite runny, (Thinking more like pouring consistency, just add a bit of water) with sausages, chops etc with brown sauce...yummy!
We can buy cartons of pease pudding at Aldi and Lidl but I find it handy to keep a couple of small tins in. (Not so nice though!)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

I normally cook a ham hock or bacon joint in the slow cooker then the next day chuck the soaked split peas in the slow cooker with just enough of the bacon/ham stock to cover it. I prefer to cook the ham the day before because it's easier to slice (and it goes further) when it's cold.Dum Spiro Spero0
