To change the subject completely you posted on chev's thread about handwriting and I am very interested and didn't want to hijack her thread do you have any advice about a 6 year old who is left handed whose writing is poor and who forms her letters and numbers incorrectly despite lots of practice - not sure if she has dyslexic tendencies or if I am an over anxious momher reading is poor too but she has started a new online course for that and is improving and is enjoying it which is the main thing.

I am here, with intermittent signal- apparently the line has a fault on it which they are going to sort..so i do keep losing connection and get fed up of seeing the little circle of non connection going round..
But other than that- School can have her tested for Dyslexia, Left handed children don't write any worse than others..but it could be a mixture of things as in she is concentrating hard to understand and so her letters are mixed up.
I would look at picture books and glean her understanding of the picture, clues as to what is going on in complex story books are a good way of getting an idea of her Comprehension. If she understands a new story well( as in one not told her before) then i would try a few things. As it may be hard to get a full diagnosis at this age and i think they like to test around the age of 7.
1. Eyes tested- i am sure you already have, but just make sure as you can then say you have bases covered re dyslexia etc.
2. There are worksheets/tips for left handed children, so that may be a way forward as well. Plenty online
http://www.iched.org/cms/scripts/page.php?site_id=iched&item_id=lefthanded_handwriting
3. I would not concentrate too much on spelling although it does depend on schools but you could start by giving her some strategies for spelling some words she may have difficulty with, i was a big fan of silly rhymes for spelling. It helps a lot and DD2 is dyslexic and she loved these.
4. Finally, if you are worried you are too anxious then you may be- not as in a pushy mum kind of anxious- but as a baby can pick up on body signals then so can she kind of anxious. Don't forget you have all had a horrible couple of years. I am guilty of putting my focus on trivial things when everything else is going on around me- so you maybe over focusing on this( does this make sense?) So if she senses you are anxious, then she gets anxious as she wants to please and so it becomes a bit of a circular thing.
Keep practicing and celebrate every little success. Habits take a long time to form( we all know that after being on here for the duration:eek::rotfl:) so give her some time. I certainly wouldn't practice for more than 20mins a day with her and give a reward for completing handwriting tasks.
I would also do little things like make a writing corner for her- not full of sheets, but things like little booklets to draw and make. Postcards to post and send- anything she can draw on and have fun with:D Buy the Jolly Postman books and read that with her- they have wonderful little letters in. Postman Pat books are good to, she can have a little shop and everything. Just make it out of cardboard and spend a fun afternoon chilling and enjoying. My kids loved a splat corner, where they would just write daft words that meant something to them( not rude by the way) but you know little ones sense of humour...:rotfl:
We once had a corner with wibble wobbles on it, because they loved jelly- it was all to do with word association and they would just come and pick up chalk and draw their words and pics to do with jelly..they would giggle away and we had jelly at the end of the week and made a jelly poem of all the words.
Hope that helps and not to long or preachy.. Bob xBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Thanks Taxi, i have a ways to go yet though. It feels like i have shifted a mountain- three times over. Had to go the longer route as something else always cropped up and stopped me tackling just that- but that is life.
Now to lob turnips at the rest of it:DBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
