Cheap plug in extensions use aluminium core cable which is even worse.
An iPlate includes a choke in the ring wire circuit and that solves a lot of the issues even with plug in extensions.
Any plug in extension used for a phone should be filtered at the master socket end for the same reason.0 -
hi
done a bit of messing around with connections and stuff and now heres my stats;
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps Line Attenuation 23 db 11 db Noise Margin 15 db 27 db
regardsthey don't make shortbread any longer:)0 -
Well that's how it should be.
Are your phones connected now or is that just the stats from the inner socket?
If your sync remains at 8128 for a few days you should eventually see speedtests of 7Mbps+
If you move to O2 then you should get their estimated 17Mbps too.0 -

everythings connected , i feel like a numpty cause 1 year been struggling with this and listening to skys crap saying theres nothing they could do and all i had to do was (was using a extension from master socket from hall to living room then plugged the microfilter into another adapter for two phones then into socket in living room)
was to just plug the microfilter straight into socket without the adapter.
thats all i done to get the difference.
so your saying if i go with O2 i will get that kind of speed just now

The Teir 1 agent at Sky should've picked that up on your first call.(Unless it was Lipa you got speaking to in which case I'm not suprised! They couldn't even diagnose a leaky tap!)
Heck, checking the physical set up is part of the first steps in the PC Based fault finding thing they use!! (Or it was when I was in Sky!)
Kwik,
Agree about the ringwire being not needed now,the bit about aluminium core being not good for phones is something we were tought at NTL,For one it's easier damaged compared to copper.0 -

Anyhow it's sorted now and to answer the OP O2 LLU uses ADSL2+ so the higher speeds will be there immediately if you swap. Do take note of Spike's comments on their new shaping policy and FUP limits though if you use P2P or download any significant amount (using Steam for instance).0 -
kwikbreaks wrote: »I don't dispute at all that cheap leads with aluminium conductors may break more easily. The thing is that no matter how good the extension is it will still have that dratted ringwire picking up crud and messing up speeds.

It's the BT kit that is ADSL only.
O2 are ADSL2+ and will deliver the higher speeds already.0 -
