    Question:

If I grow two types of runner bean next to each other, and they cross-pollinate, is the resulting bean a mixture of the two, or does that only apply to the seed?

It would only be the seed [or the resulting bean that grows from the seed]....
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Phew. That's ok then. Hybrid long / short beans wouldn't win me any prizes. :rotfl:

If you are contemplating saving seed from the LAYA then it's not a good idea to plant them close to the others you saved or you will likely get cross polination. Then next year there's no telling what you'll get.

I suddenly had a panic (after planting them out!) that it might be the beans and not just the seed. Thread's getting a bit long to remember it all. :o I'm not too worried about next year. ;)

I'll be fleecing them tomorrow night too...meant to be down to about 4°C here.

i have spare Lemon Cucumber plants if you would like a couple, but only got 1 normal one so can not help there and all 6 gherkin plants worked :o and a garden that seems to be shrinking :D

If I was still in Sussex I would take you up on that but as I'm now 200 miles away, I'll have to just put my hand in my pocket instead :D

Why? Have you got a cucumber in there? Or a gherkin? :rotfl:

I remember you saying you were going to rely on your mate for next years seed. If he gets bigger ones than you he might not let you have any...

Going to take a few pictures and see if I can get them on here at a decent size. Might not include the beans though. Jury's still out on whether you should get a preview yet or not.

It's supposed to be pretty cold here tonight. I've fleeced the competition ones - I'm not taking any chances! ;)

You've just said that to wind me up, haven't you? :p

This is the first year I've grown onions. In the last picture, they really make it look like a proper, grown-up vegetable patch, don't they? :j

I think I'll grow onions every year from now on. :D
