Depending on how many you want to grow, but I recommend the variety Music which the really garlicky company sell, approx 15 heads to a kilo, and 6 cloves to a head - hence my 2kg of seed garlic giving me 180 plants, obviously the more you buy the cheaper it is, but I had a bulk deal with some mates last year that got it down to £13 per kg. That would be equivalent to under 14p per clove, or 86p per head, dearer than a clove in the shops, but they are a variety that does extremely well in my soil.
Really garlicky do free P&P but it's quite a large order needed, so good to get in touch with some local garlic growing buddies before you order.0 -

It probably won't matter anyway, as my mate's only growing the LAYA, so I could just grab some from him.
If you can get some from your mate then that's your best option.0 -
I'm so sick of cat and fox faeces in my garden, I have commenced Operation Spiky Fence:
Back of the shed. The neighbours behind kindly let me do the first panel into their gardens too:
I intend to spike every inch of the fence around my garden. I may also have to prevent access to the top of my shed.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
you think that will keep out a cat??? Mine was PTS a fewyears ago but those spikes wouldn't of stopped him in his younger days. Luckily we lived rurally so no gardens for him to use more like fields but he would of been up and over putting pawsin the section where 2 lengths of spikes join.
Other than that how you doing after footgate?? I dug up a scapula at the lottie on Saturday, canine though and though ewww if that was human and i posted about it everyone would think i was jaking about like Mr BE. I then realised i had been lurking around MSE gardening threads a bit too muchMF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000 -

Realistically? No. But I'm going to make it as awkward for them as I can. They will no longer be able to saunter along the top of the fence, and if necessary I'll fit pigeon spikes around the posts.
Hopefully it will slow the foxes down though. They aren't going to like scrambling over the fence with those on there. I should know, I've been leaning on them all day.
The problem is the proximity and accessibility of the sheds in the gardens. They (cats) will still find it reasonably easy to transit the area. What I want to discourage, is them taking a "pit" stop in my garden. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Foxes can be deterred by human smells. HFW recommends human hair in tights hung on the fences. I have heard that 'marking your territory' as it were keeps them out too, supposed to work for cats as well.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

Imagine my delight when I went out into the garden this morning and saw a cat walking along my back fence.
On the plus side, he was walking along it very gingerly, and when I went to chase him he couldn't go any faster to get away. :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Chase it! I would have gone after it with a water gun. It would soon learn to give your garden a wide berth then.I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order

If I'd had one to hand...
I don't get much chance because they really don't hang around when they see me coming. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
