    None of my tomatoes have sprouted yet though I didn't check last night - back from work very late...). I planted the first 12 seeds 3 weeks ago now. Every year I go throguh this panicky stage about "none of them are gonna sprout..."

    That does seem a long time - take 'em out of the fridge? :p

    Mine took about 1-2 weeks, unheated.
    If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • I have 8 bags outside with spuds in that are growing like wild things. As we will eventually have more frosts will I need to fleece over the bags or just keep the leaves covered with soil/compost?
    I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

    Keep the leaves covered with soil until after your last frost date.

    Also, just to add a little extra; put the bags [as they are, with holes made at the bottom] in a trench with potato fertiliser raked in - and when the roots get to the sides/bottom of the bags, they can access more nutrients and you get a better yield. It's how the guru Tattieman does his.
    If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

    Morning all. :hello:

    I have an erection in progress, and I've tightened my nuts. Which is nice. :D

    I look forward to posting photos of the new fence later. The greenhouse looks to be in reasonably decent shape, despite the odd loose nut here and there. It is showing signs of wear, but nothing too serious. How long does a sub £200 aluminium & plastic greenhouse last anyway? I think I've had mine 4-5 years now, and I can see it being good for at least another couple, all being well.

    Can't wait for the fencers to finish so I can get out there and clear up (and inspect the damage, probably!).

    Last night I joined the Grapevine site as recommended.

    I sowed a few more radishes today. I've got swede and turnips coming up (it looks like I've managed to sow them in clumps :o ), and the first lot of radishes are poking their heads through too.

    38 of the 40 tomato seeds I planted have germinated. That should be more than enough for my needs, and I can always propagate more from side shoots if need be. They and the chillies are in the greenhouse, as it's shaping up to be a lovely day.

    Hope all is as well in whatever part of the world you all happen to be in?

    :wave:

    Looking good MBE.

    If only you knew. I'm currently watching them destroy my gooseberry bush and rhubarb. :mad:

    Can you chop the rhubarb down and get it chopped and frozen for some rhubarb wine? Rather than waste it????

    <Through heavily gritted teeth>

    It will recover. As will the gooseberry bush.

    <must not punch fencer>

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

    I'll go out when they've finished, to pick any damaged rhubarb. At least I have the satisfaction of knowing the gooseberry bush fought back, a bit. :D
