AFAIK it's very dodgy sending parcels or anything of value to Kenya, it's extremely likely to go missing

I'd a friend who tried sending things to people he met there on holiday, he gave up in the end & would save the stuff to take over when he went back himself

personally I wouldn't risk it, but maybe someone else here will have advice about how to safeguard yourself
  • I wouldn't advise sending a mobile phone abroad. You will no get more than £32 in compensation from the Royal Mail for loss/damage if you choose to send a mobile phone abroad. It doesn't matter what service you use. £32 is the maximum amount of compensation that they now provide.

thanks for getting back so quick. I have e mailed the buyer and asked if they have an address in the UK as I do not post abroad, think this one may be going on second chance offer soon LOL The buyer does have a lot of good feedback but not much recently.

  • I am from Kenya and yes believe it when I say it wont reach your seller... there have been several occasions when parcels have gone missing and it is obvious who pockets them. I had ordered paints from here and never got them. The only safe way would be DHL but then again there would be cost to consider, if seller is willing to pay for DHL then go for it, if not, then do not send it.

    Its a scam!!!

Look on th eEbay boards for confirmation!

You'll have a chargeback in no time.

No activity for a while and then loads is prime marker for a hijaked account.

2nd chance to the next UK bidder.

You'll only loose out if you send it abroad....

I don't think there's any need for such an unhelpful & unkind post, not all of us are as savvy as you obviously are

I posted here for advice as I thought it was weird that somebody from Nigeria would want to buy a mobile from the UK. I have written to the winning bidder and asked them if they have a UK address - you never know and I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt. I have also written to the next person on the list of bidders to see if they are still interested in the phone. I think from the posts above I will also write to Ebay and ask them to check to see if this is a hi jacked account.
    Thanks for the constructive advice

Is it Nairobi (Kenya) or Nigeria? If it's Nigeria it's 99.9% likely to be a scam. The only way I'd complete that sale is if the buyer paid cash on collection and I had a security pen to make sure the notes were genuine.

Good idea to check with eBay. What's the auction number? Some of the regulars here will be able to check out the buyer's ID and see if the activity on the account is in a typical fraudster pattern.
