I have managed to get finance for the car i want..had my head set on one i found and now another has cropped up and not sure if ones better.

Car 1: 1.6 Zafira Club 2006 petrol £4995 done 48k. Perfect in every way apart from it has quite bad scratches in the rear of it inside on the plastic..salesman seemed to think it wasn't anything yet i thought it was quite bad and he wants full price for car..hoping to go in and say £3500 and get it for that price. Trading mine in as p/x.

Car 2: 1.6 zafira Life 2007 petrol £4995 32.5k. Not seen but if ok is it a better buy than the other one? black but not sure they look like hurses? not sure when things go on these as read around 35,000 miles for bits and although under warrantly ide rather not have the hassle?!

So any opinions on life or club or the mileage?
Thanks x

Both cars run the infamous cambelts and plastic failing tensioners. So check that Car 1 has had them replaced at 40k - if it hasn't been done I would negotiate hard or walk. Car 2 will need them doing at 40k so check to see how much it will cost. The belt and braces method is to have a cambelt kit which includes all the pulleys and tensioners and also to replace the water pump at the same time.

    Club is the better trim.
The scratches mean it's been well used though.

Where's the thermostat on this model? The Zafira A was behind the cambelt, and used to stick open after 5 years or so. If it's the same engine as the A, check it gets up to temperature.

new one on me last time i changed a stat on a 16xe it was 3 E8 torx bolts holding it on just above exhaust manifold on the left no cambelt stripping was required.
been a while since i worked at vaux (2000) but the only engines i remember having to do this were some of the old OHC 8 valves from off of the 80's /early 90's.

as for the original question the club will be better trim as said above but do bear in mind the 1.6 is a bit gutless in the zaffy if your budget allows for higher price and slight increase in insurance then would be better going for the 1.8.
  • a 1.6 in a zafira that is gonna eat fuel till theres none left on the planet thats a tiny engine for such a large car

Neither of those engines are the one that shreds cambelts at 40k.

2006 will be Z16XEP which never had the cambelt interval shortened by Vauxhall and is still 8years/100k.

2007 will either be the same or Z16XER - the VVT engine.

The Z16XE had a lot of problems with cambelts however it's not been used since ~2003.

I thought Vauxhall went belt and braces on shortened the interval for all engines.

Hmm mixed replys..the 1st car is the one im trying for. The garage is now despite seeing my car etc giving me the run around on price and im getting fed up as its not a local garage! the fact mine which is an 01 plate is in much better condition is bugging me as im paying so much and they are quibbling over a couple of hundred..sigh..anyway! the scratches im not sure what they are from and he didnt know..maybe the parcel shelf being pulled in and out but i cope with mine?

Inactive yes i do have one but have spent lots getting it sorted out with various bits and want shot now!

As for the 1.6 eating all the petrol mines really good on fuel consumption.

Thanks guys no further ahead now will check to see if cambelt done though.

the above is correct with regards the intervals the z16xep did not have 40k interval however i would not leave it until 100k personally.
if it were me i would do the complete kit and water pump at 65-70k miles to be on safe side but up until then be vigilant about unusual noises.

OP if you are in any doubt about the car you are interested in either the scratches or PX price then just walk there will be plenty more zaffys out there, just take your time to get the right car.

My friend has a Zafira (58 plate) He hates it. No cup holders, insufficient cubby holes, de-mister function is dreadful, doesn't have climate control, no pull down trays on the front seats. Other than that it goes alright.
