Which Zafira..

My friend has a Zafira (58 plate) He hates it. No cup holders, insufficient cubby holes, de-mister function is dreadful, doesn't have climate control, no pull down trays on the front seats. Other than that it goes alright.
Hasn't he found them yet? I agree there are only 6 for the 7 seats.0 -

I love mine i have now..its easy to park consdering a biggish car for me..drives well..heats up really quickly everything about it is fab BUT being older it is going to have more faults as time goes on and i need it for work so that is the reason im upgrading. The trays in the back would annoy me tbh as the kids would just have more to fidle with..i currently have 2 cup holders in mine as far as i can see which is ok for the front as again with the kids in the back they would get spilt everywhere!0 -

if it were me i would do the complete kit and water pump at 65-70k miles to be on safe side but up until then be vigilant about unusual noises.
OP if you are in any doubt about the car you are interested in either the scratches or PX price then just walk there will be plenty more zaffys out there, just take your time to get the right car.
Hi thanks..well there are 3 in total that are any good..having to px means i am not going to drive miles around to find one. One is one above which is the better one i think..one is the one i looked at first..stereo was tempremental in coming on and some scratches to the paintwork..the one i want is immaculate apart from these scratches in the back which tbh isnt the be all and end all but annoyed he is giving me no slack on price haggling. Supposed to be calling me back at 10am today so will see how it goes.0 -
I wouldn't recommend any Zafira other than the 1.8 petrol, don't forget that the new one is a lot heavier than the old one, in fact going purely by the ones we have at work the older ones appear to have lasted better for some reason. The blind spot at the A pillar is a little worse on the later shape, or at least it is for me, it may not be as bad for shorter drivers.
The MetPol had a few old shape ones, though I seem to remember being told they had the 1.8 petrol engine in them for DPG (red ones) duties and they had a few silver ones, also apparently 1.8 petrol for airport police in East London.
We have 120bhp diesels and they are quite sluggish, but they have more torque than the 1.6 engine.
And 120bhp isn't really enough, though ours do have autoboxes, so can't honestly see a 1.6 being particuarly frugal.
But if this is the car you like and you just want to choose one, then go for the 2007 model.
And no they don't look like a hearse in Black, they actually look OK, and have little touches of chrome at the back and front to make them look a bit nicer.
The 2006 one looks overpriced and they wouldn't have paid full price for it due to the scratches, anybody that has traded in a car with poor cosmetics will back me up on that.
These make your two seem expensive.(though you have to pay an indemnity fee on top (£91)

Hmm thanks. Don't like any of them apart from the last one and i have to like what im driving..looking quickly the mileages are higher too although i guess newer..like i said hate the colour its like the one i have now!
Dont want a 1.8 as only do school runs in it so seems a waste and mine is fine although poss lighter it never struggles with full capacity so pleaed with it.
Thanks.0 -
Obviously you don't have to take any advice given, after all you didn't follow my advice the last time and are now getting rid of a liability of a Zafira.
You also don't seem to understand the point of my advice, it doesn't matter what you use the car for, the 1.6 engine is too small for the larger Mk2 body, you don't realise the difference in size, though subtle, until you park one next to the other, I certainly didn't.
But I will again reiterate my comments, the 103bhp in the early 1.6 engine is not enough.
Though there is a penalty in having the 1.8 in that the roadtax is higher than the 1.6. So I fully understand your wish to have a 1.6.
If you can stretch to it the newer 1.6 115bhp engine is a better compromise, but I don't think that came in till late 2008 or early 2009, so they are almost certainly too expensive.
Don't focus on the miles, a car that has done 70k miles on motorways and been serviced by the book due to the lease agreement is a better bet than a one owner, urban family car. That has been serviced to the minimum level and then traded in as soon as the warranty is out.
And I can confirm that there aren't much in the way of cubby holes in the Mk2 Zafira, though they have put some radio equipment in the bit under the armrest in ours which is where the front cupholders where, but the position of the cupholders in the door pocket is better, which you had with the Mk1.
Also there have been more faults with the Mk2, and after being in one for 40/60 hours a week for over 2 years I can confirm that there are indeed plenty of benefits to be gained by having a Mk2, though they are a pain to park due to the design of the front bumper and are slightly harder to park due to the general design of the car.
The Mk1 was easier to park, and they fitted a reverse camera to our Mk2's due to the slightly reduced view out the back.
The brakes are much better in the Mk2 though, and in general they are fairly decent to drive.
But after my time in them I will be very glad when they retire them and go for the rumoured Skoda Octavia estates, 140bhp and DSG gearbox, can't wait.:j
One thing for everybody to know, don't ever buy a yellow 120bhp diesel Zafira in Design spec with an autobox, it is knackered beyond belief and they don't have the rear set of seats fitted.
Of the two you have looked at, buy the 2007 model, every year they improved the Zafira in some way, for example we have 2005 models, 2006 models and 2007 models. They are all different in some minor way as every year problems are solved.
As they are the same price then it seem sensible to go for the latest you can afford.0 -
Hi thanks for that in depth reply i do appreiate your help even if i dont listen as such!!
I understand what you are saying BUT..1 i cant afford the newer one..and 2 it is literally used each day for school runs and the odd shopping trip so really dont think i need the 1.8 as said.
Mine now is very light to drive and i love it..i am sure the newer one is heavier but i guess ill have to get used to it. I am a terrible car buyer..i went to view the one i wanted again and bought it..i never test drove it but got a good deal on it..i have never ever test driven a car and i adapt to them not the other way round..i am sooo picky that i would find fault with bits so best to just buy and deal with it after is my motto!
My current one has had issues..it is getting on and due to my job i need something more reliable and up to date.if i dont have a car i dont get paid so that is the reason for upgrading as think this one would be fine but not prepared to shell out anymoer on it. the advice given when i bought this current one was not to get a 1.6 and i find it is really powerful and never struggles so glad i didnt waste the extra money.
Picking mine up hopefully the end of this week so will let you know how i get on..x0 -
Oh, sorry I thought they where the same price.
I must admit I thought the previous model was a nicer car to drive, though ours where the horrible 2.0 DTi with an auto box.
I may also be biased against the Zafira due to the reliability record they have in diesel (120bhp with DPF) form with the tiptronic box. Based on using them at work occasionally since early 2006, full time since 2008.
Though thinking about it they haven't really fallen apart and most faults are to do with the diesel engine and DPF. Funnily enough the Minicab drivers around the area I work have started buying them recently in fairly high numbers, though strangely they all seem to be petrol.
At least it is easier to get out of the new ones, we had Design models in the old shape and they had Recaro type seats, with a relatively high sill below the door, but sadly I don't seem to have a Recaro @rse, so even though very comfy to drive, I struggled to get out.
Hopefully this one will be better than your last.0 -
Thanks bigjl. Yes they were the same price but the p/x price was miles apart and didnt warrant me going for the other one..also wasn't 100% sure on the black whereas the blue is lovely. I hope this one is better but guess time will tell..least i have a warrantly on this one unlike the other one..swore ide never buy a car off the side of the rd and this current one proves my point!0

Got the car yesterday..love it! Only niggles with it are one of the passenger doors is quite stiff..and there is an occasional rattle on the dashboard.. I would moan if i had a brand new car off the forecourt! Drives lovely and is plenty fast enough for me.0
