Expensive Reception wanted by my wife to be: am I being unfair?

Glad you managed to reach a compromise. When I first got engaged I fell in love with some beautiful venue's but as the quotes come in I knew we couldn't justify spending 6 or 7 grand just to hire a place before even thinking about food etc. After looking around we found a beautiful hotel venue set in the countryside and booked one of their midweek packages.0

Hi - I've read your thread and I'm sorry you are in that situation, however it looks like you have received a lot of good advice.
I just wanted to write to you from the perspective of the bride(zilla). Basically it's 6 months to go till the wedding and now we will not be able to afford what we had planned mainly because I lost my job and have been unable to get a new one (the thread 'wedding plans in tatters'). In my head since a little girl I have had the idea of my dream wedding and it is very hard to let that go. My niece is 5 and has the disney princess duvets, curtains, wallpaper... some people just have that princess fantasy ingrained from a young age. I am a normal reasonable person and know that on our budget we can't afford a £350 hire car and will probably end up in a taxi but a part of you inside your head is like 'but real princesses don't use taxis!!!'
It is a totally emotional response and yes, quite selfish and quite childish in light of financial reality - but humans are not always the most rational of creatures - ask any Vulcan. She probably is aware that it is unreasonable but it can be hard to let go of your 'dream' . It sounds like you could afford at least £9K for the whole wedding for say 100 people you could get something very posh and princessy for that amount. Be careful though because sometimes people spend a lot but it ends up looking cheap and tacky.0 -
Hi OP.
I live in South Norfolk too and have just got engaged. We don't have a massive budget, but there are some beautiful places around here to have a wedding.
I've listed some of the ones that we have considered.
* Lynford Hall
* Stower Grange (think we are going with this one)
* Hunter's Hall
* Dunston Hall
* Caistor Hall
Hopefully will give you some cheaper options?Finally, debt free for the first time since I was 18!:DFirst baby born: 21/05/2014Second baby born: 04/03/20170
