Can't believe the mess I'm in!

  • Sadly my hammy had a tumour and had to be put to sleep. I don't regret using the credit card becuase he was clearly poorly and I couldn't leave him until I got paid - that would have been cruel.

Olivia, many thanks for the tip re pre-payment meters, it's worth a try!

Binnie, good luck with the job hunting. I hope something comes along soon, you deserve a break!

Squirrel, not long now until you can grab your wages. I bet it's felt like a long wait, but at least things will soon get moving now.
  • So sorry to hear about hamster, I used to have a few and they are little characters. I done blame you using your card to take away his pain. Yes I can't wait to get started on this. It's a pain though as I'd worked a fair bit of overtime and should have had about £300 to put away as rainy day fund, but this week my Hoover packed up then I just got Virgin Media bill and phone calls are £40 eeek!!

It's because I had a few days off at Chrimbo and used the phone outside of the free eve and weekend package. Their calls are so dear!! So the rainy day fund is eroding before it even gets into savings. Though I've shopped around and sourced a new vacuum for £40 which less than half price.
Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time

  • Squirell, sorry about the extra costs that have cropped up. Life can be a so and so at times! It's feels like you're constantly swimming against the tide but not getting very far. I agree with Chivers about getting a hoover for a free, if you haven't already bought one. It's also worth googling 'Freecycle' to see if there is one is your area. You can post a message about needing hoover on there too.

Thanks for message about my hamster. He was adorable, bless him - he was a dwarf hamster so tiny and cute!

No - about every 6-12 months they ask for a revised SOA looking for increased payments but I have had no CCJ's etc. and have never missed a DMP payment

Some will not accept a first offer but if you just keep paying CCCS and they pay the creditor they tend to settle down after a while

    HTH :D

Thanks this does help... getting all stressed out about it all... have to open new bank account as i have a loan with my current one and was told by CCCS to switch so went to natwest but they couldn't process it coz have such bad credit rating :( had to open a savings account with them instead and try again in 3/12 to upgrade it to current account.
so now i have to wait until those details come thru, then send letter to all creditors, arrange for wages to be paid into new account, cancel/swap direct debits over.... arrrrgghhhh! mind melt!

Thanks re hamster B17c. Glad I still had a card to do it for him as will have to cut them up! It's scary thinking of having to live one without one, but I have to get used to it. It's one of the reasons I'm in this mess after all.

I really can understand the stress you're going through, as I'm setting up a DMP myself. Sorry about the bank account. The good thing about Nat West is they give a debit card with the savings account, and hopefully in time you will be able to open a regular one. Did they give you your account number and sort code already? If so you don't need to wait for anything to come through in the post, you can give your details to your employer to get your salary switched, and also to start changing direct debits. The sooner you can get your details to your employer the better. And do check which month they'll be paying the salary into the new account.

My new bank account is open and I'm currently working my way through a list of companies where I need to change direct debits, in date order of how they come out, and cancelling the payment from my present account. They are so many! I realised when I rang about council tax that there's no payment due until April (I'd forgotten we only pay for 10 months!) so that was a bonus. I'm also sorting out sending out letters to creditiors, and it's a stressful time, you are right. I have made a list of everthing I'm doing/need to do, and this is helping me feel I'm keeping track of everything. I'm not looking forward to the response from my creditors, and hoping that it will all calm down eventually. I'm looking forward to my wages going into my new account later this month so that it can all kick off properly.

Make sure you take care of yourself, and remember there's a lot of support on here when you need it.

May your hamster r.i.p I know when I had mine put down, I was absolutley beside myself so much so my DH said I was never to another one,I too would have used the cc to free him from pain.
    :money:
  • Thanks Honeybear. I guess you never had another hamster? It is very hard when they have to go. I probably will get another because I know I can offer a loving home, but not just yet.

    How are things with you?
  • Hey Pink Angel, so sorry to hear about your hamster, it is so hard when your loved pet has to be put to sleep. I had to have my young dog put to sleep just before Christmas, and i was devastated. They are true and loyal little friends, I miss my dog every day......................

Glad to hear that things are moving forward, some days are easier than others, but the important thing is to try and stay even a little bit focused on the end goal of being debt free. I have been fighting the spending elves all week. My new laptop arrived (which was budgeted for and is 10 payments at 0% interest yay) but really want a laptop sleeve for it, something funky. have been searching sites for the best deals etc, registered for Quidco and top cashback, but and its a big but, i have a perfectly good (never used) laptop case available to use. Just don't like it much. the new and improved MSEer in me thinks i should use this, but my old spending ways are causing me some problems. Have decided to follow the advice from MSE and sleep on it and use the mantra's!

Sorry for rambling on, got a bit carried away there, anyway hope that you are feeling ok, big hug and keep your chin up. Dolly x:wave:
