Do I need to pay?! Need help ASAP please!

Hey, thanks for taking the time to have a look at this.
I just bought a new bed frame and mattress (mine got eaten by mice so I needed one quickly!)

Didn't get it from a big company or anything, but from Straiton Bed Company. Thought they might have been a bit dodgy but they have been going for years, prices were good (I am buying this on my overdraft or I'll be sleeping on the couch for about three years till I can afford it!) and decided to risk it.
I really liked a mattress, dude in the shop told me it was £300 and I just went oh well guess I'll stop dreaming, no way I can afford it...and within about 1 minute he said ah I'll give you it for £150. That's a big discount very fast. Half price. Makes me wonder how much the mattress is really worth. Anyway I went for it.

My problem is that they are delivering my mattress tomorrow morning, and originally charged me £20. I literally live 2/3 minutes down a straight road from them. He said if we put the mattress in our car and bent it at all I would lose the guarantee, so I would HAVE to get it delivered. I said I didn't want to pay £20 cause it's so close, and decided to walk home carrying the mattress. He put it down to £10. I still thought it was too much but I agreed.

When I got home I checked their website. It says on their website, on the home page, quite clearly - 'We offer free delivery within the local area on all beds and same day delivery can usually be arranged if required.'

So please help me - if they deliver tomorrow can I refuse payment? Shall I show them the website? I don't want to take the mick since he gave me a discount on the mattress. But the delivery guys won't know that maybe?
I haven't signed anything. I can't afford this bed let alone another tenner if I don't have to pay it.
Thanks in advance!

You may not have signed anything, but you have agreed to pay £10 for delivery, haven't you?

Surely you can work out what you need to do?

Web offers are often different to instore offers.

And those buying from the web have probably not paid half price. ;)

It does say free delivery on their website, but you did get a good deal on the price.

How about ringing them first thing tomorrow and talking to them about it.

I know where you are coming from but it isn't a web offer. You can't even buy stuff from them online. They are purely talking about delivery from their shop.
I think the guy might have been chancing it and I don't want to pay if I have the right not too, seeing as they offer free delivery.

Sorry I had only seen the first reply when I posted that. So does everyone think I should just pay? That sucks! Wish I'd checked the website first!

Try ringing them first, mention the free delivery on the web site.

the deal on the website which says free delivery is a seperate price for a seperate deal than the deal you individually negotiated.

you negotiated £150 off the mattress but as a counter to the discount the retailer is not offering you the free delivery, you agreed to pay ten pound delivery in order to secure £150 discount on the mattress, you negotiated a good deal, so just pay what you agreed, your still saving £140 overall.

I should probably add it isn't a company, a chain, a franchise, it is actually a big carvan turned into a shop, it is the only shop there is, the guy said he gets 'the boys' to do deliveries for him coz they 'have a van' and he has 'nothing to do with it' but that they charge £20 and I pay them when they arrive. So why does it say free delivery on his website? It's not like a proper delivery company, it is guys with a van going to his shop and bringing the mattress two mins down the road to me :P Not exactly DHL stuff lol

He offered me the mattress for £150 and I went away and thought about it, and checked it would still be that price if I came back to buy it. I was getting it for that price regardless or whether I needed delivery or not. I thought I could take it home in the car. I had already secured the £150 discount on the mattress before I even needed delivery. He wasn't saying u can have the mattress for £150 IF you pay a tenner delivery.
I don't think I'm explaining myself very well, sorry people :(

it doesn't matter if it's a one man band or a multi store retailer or who the delivery people are the retailer sets the price, you don't have a right to receive anything for free, and as i said above the deal on the website is not the same deal you negotiated seperately and you're better off so i see no grounds for demanding free delivery.....

but as my sales woman other half always says, "you get nothing if you don't ask" and "you need to be cheeky if you want to get a deal", so you could ring him up and say "i've seen your offering free delivery on your website but i'm paying for mine, i know i got a discount but any chance of throwing in the free delivery too" it might work but best to ask and not demand.
