Half your wage is going on rent - that can't be sustainable. Moving to a cheaper area would seem sensible.
  • Will return back to work once baby is a year old and work part time. Ive been working part time for 5 years now whilst being a mum to my 2 kids but had to give up last mth due to health preoblems with this pregnancy. So just looking forward and not back :T

Hi - can you get an overdraft just to get you through this month? or as someone else said extend the overdraft slightly? This obviously isn't great but if you have no food or money to get food then this might be neccesary?
Your electric and gas don't look too bad but have you checked you are on a good deal? you might be able to shave a tiny bit off and it'll all help. If you do end up switching supplier don't forget to go through Quidco or somewhere for cashback.
I presume the secured loan/hp debt is to pay for the car?
I don't know if you have a credit union near you but it might be worth investigating whether you can borrow some money to pay the hp off and hopefully pay less each month? I know extending the term is not a great idea but might help until you can get Next and the other card paid off at which point you could start attacking the hp. Some credit unions expect you to save with them for a while before they will lend to you but I think it only has to be a couple of pounds a week - which hopefully you can free up from the food budget, electric and gas, extra benefits etc.
Good Luck - stick with it.

How much can I save in 2012 challenge

  • LOL you wouldn't want me as your real life friend :D You'd get the rest of my little spiel which gets a whole lot less fluffy and goes along the lines of taking ownership of your own life, acting like an adult, supporting your children (emotionally and financially) and not whinging about how everything is someone elses fault (like your sig re your LL and your comments about your families houses) :D How's that sounding now?!

Seriously though take ownership of your family; your hubby clearly works hard and he brings in a good income - especially if all your car costs are covered, no wonder he's !!!!ed off, he's working hard and you're still in debt and unhappy. You now need to add value in your home life and if you can't earn money because of the kiddies then you need to add value in other ways, so by cutting your domestic costs for a start; I don't see any reason why you can't shave £150 pm easily off your grocery bills but you have to be prepared to work at it and not just come up with a whole load of excuses reasons about why you can't change things. I suspect if you can get into the swing of it you'll enjoy the challenge.

Get better at what you're buying - no more Next Accounts that you can't afford, get better at buying and selling on ebay, carboots, NCT etc. You can bring a lot of value to your family by changing the way you live.

I don't think your situation is too bad, you have a decent income and your debts aren't huge. If you can get to grips with running Your Family PLC I think your dream of your own home is doable but you have to want to change.

Come on over to the OS board - there are some lovely folks on there x

I'm slightly baffled to be honest........there's 5 of us (2 adults and 3 kids) living on slightly less salary and we dont get car, insurance, road tax and internet included! I cant understand how you can call it a measly wage with those perks. Could you manage without them if he quit?

The only thing that pulls us through at the moment is the working tax credit. Check out all the benefits you might be entitled to (you'll have to recheck them once babe arrives).

Also, you mentioned ebay and amazon - dont forget that the buyer pays the postage not you. It's included in the money that send via paypal, etc.

    Congrats on the little un!

Im so fed up. Mu hubby works 12 hours a day Mon-Fri and then 5 hours on a SATURDAY for a mealsley wage. HEs just emailed me so fed and wants to quit his job and be on the dole. Wed get loads of benefits and hed be at home with me and the kids till he found a better job.

Please do not let him do that; he would be sanctioned; meaning he would not get JSA for 6 months.

He might well get hardship payments on appeal but by the time those came through (with HB and CTC routinely taking 2 months to sort out), you would be in deep do-do.

Why is your rent so high? What is the Local Housing Allowance for a 3 bed house? And what will it be under the new rules, when it reduces?

What is this masssive secured debt?
