Pregnant married with 2 kids and only £5 till end of month

OMG we are so struggling with debt and money its silly.

i cant do a food shop this week so tommorrow morning Im gonna have to go with the pennies in my purse (about £5.00 in change) and buy kids squash, bread, milk, ham and thats IT! :( We have a few bits in the cupboard and freezer but not much :(

Im so fed up. Mu hubby works 12 hours a day Mon-Fri and then 5 hours on a SATURDAY for a mealsley wage. HEs just emailed me so fed and wants to quit his job and be on the dole. Wed get loads of benefits and hed be at home with me and the kids till he found a better job.

OMG I feel awful, only my kids are keeping me going. Both our parents are sitting in HUGE houses (we rent and have done for 8 yearsGRR) and they hardly ever contact us or offer to help ie babysit lend us some emergency money :(

Any ideas what we should do?

  • In short term to get some money to last until end of month we're:
    • putting stuff on ebay (although need money for postage)
    • selling stuff on amazon (again needs postage though)
    • taking stuff that didn't sell on ebay and other items to car boot sale (at ours they don't ask for £10 fee until part way through morning)
    • looking for gold items (I thought I didn't have any unwanted gold but just remembered about earrings although I'll need to check they will accept them
    • home insurance due so going to shop around in the hope that the best deal also gives cash back
    • sell old phones

Some of the benefits won't be felt until next month (or later) but even just trying to sort it out means I can stop worrying quite so much (and have less stuff in house!).
    Making small changes everyday....
  • I am sure everyone is feeling the pinch in January, we sure are.

Surely your husband has more pride about him to stay in his job rather than quit and live on benefits. An employer would rather employ someone who is in work rather than someone on JSA. If he quits, he will only get Hardship anyway.

Quick suggestion: don't spend money on squash - drink water it's free and the 50p might buy you essential food.
