I think what you need to concentrate on is your grocery shop - this sounds awfully high!

Are these cheaper brands you can get instead? Obviously without seeing your typical shopping list it is difficult to say how you can save there, and obviously this would change weekly.

Does your husband take packed lunches? or have to buy something daily?

Have you got anything you can sell? Perhaps go to a carboot one weekend soon. Or sign up as a mystery shopper?

If things are as desperate as you say, extend you credit card limit for this month. Your SOA doesn't seem so bad that you would be left with only five pounds half way through the month, have you forgotten something?

Apply to the council today. If your entitled to it they only tend to pay from the Monday of any application. So if you leave it till tomorrow, it would be next week they would start calculations/payments from.
But in the interim its not going to help you today.

On what grounds does it say you expect council tax benefit. I for one, can't see that. Your husband earns twenty-six thousand five hundred pounds a year, I can't see that being a basis to receive CT benefit.

  • Definatley going to cut down on my food spend. Also will contact the council. i hate asking for help but if we are entitled to it and everyone else is doing it then why not?

Starting to worry about babis nappies being added to our grocery bill and formula etc..EEK! Things will be harder in a few mths but hoping at least one of credit cards will be ZERO by then.

Thanks for all your help and will check out all the links and boards. you guys are great and have lifted my spirits a little. Thankyou guys x:T

  • Where is the cheapest supermarket to shop for food?

Our nearest is Sainsburys and I love it there as its not a HUGE superstore and you can get round it quick and the food is good quality.

We do have Asda, Tesco, morrisons but all a 1.5mile drive away and worried Ill be spending more on petrol

Try and think about Breasfeeding (its worth a go), its very handy. I even fed my twins for the first 10 weeks. But ran out of milk!

Also some area's have schemes where you can get a discount on "real nappies". Just a thought. Not for everyone. But you can often get them on Freecycle, or through the small adds. etc etc.

Dont Panic about when the baby comes today.
Think about what you need to do to get through this week/month.
