If they said they had closed why did you pay

i left a station once without paying as the clever attendant decided she was going to ID me to buy petrol
i turned up in my golf stuck £30 walked into pay and she said i didnt look 16 i did look young at 17 and she would serve me

i gave her my name and address and said get the police to come and get it my mummy will be in to pay for it
Right, so she pressed the button to allow you to put the petrol in the car but then decided to ID you? Idiots...

We can assume by reading this whole thread, that common sense isn't a requirement to run or work in a garage! lol

I hope you billed them @ 40p per mile for the extra trip.
  • I'm a regional customer services manager, and as such I see my fair share of complaint letters. I've got to say that I would far, far rather receive something like this than the unendingly dull offerings to which I normally receive.
I appreciate the notion of keeping it brief and straighforward when it comes to complaints, and in the majority of cases it is appreciated. That said, if someone demonstrates a bit of creativity and wit I will quite happily read their letter all day long AND may well be inclined to go the extra mile in response.
Aside from this, I would add that I didn't realise until I saw the response to this post quite how spectacularly negative and humourless alot of the members on here are. Smile, people. Maybe even have a biscuit. Life is short, after all.

Agreed, if you have a letter which is just "I'm very angry, what are you going to do about it" then that won't get as good a response as getting the person reading the letter onside, after all it's the shop staff here that the complaint is about, you want the customer services rep to be on your side!
  • Brilliant complaint letter, one of the best I've read. Makes it's point without losing any sense of perspective. I'm only glad I don't work for Total Customer Services Dept or I'd have been sacked for giving this guy a couple of service stations as a reward. Good for you!

Who presses the the button to allow you to fill up at a 24 hour pay-at-pump when the rest of the petrol station is closed?

Not along ago I filled up at an Asda 24 hour pump at 3am on a Sunday morning on my way to pick someone up. So even the 24 hour supermarket was closed at that time too.

Don't you have to put your card in first, in that case?

Yes but this wasn't one of those. It was a normal, manned one. And yes you do have to put your card in first.
