Having read his blog, I'm not so sure!
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

One day many more will wake up and realise they have been brainwashed by this government, its a lot for people to take in though...

I understand its difficult for you to swallow but sometimes you must understand there is another side to the story...

Why dont you take the time out to contact this man or attend one of his court cases like the one in Birkenhead recently.

    Open your mind.......

Maybe he's seen some of the occasional malicious posts on here suggesting there is no legal basis for Council Tax - ususually misinterpreting entirely irrelevant legislation

Why would suggesting there's no legal basis for council tax be malicious?

Thanks to you all for replying to my somewhat vague original post.
You have confirmed what I suspected, that my father is at least misguided, at most delusional, and yes, d123, I do think he believes he is responding to a higher authority than local government. He has huge Council Tax debt. When I ask him about it, he declares that he has paid. But this is on his terms. He insists that he has "treated" the council to various payments, which are full and final, and not offers. And because he has receipts (allegedly), these constitute confirmation of acceptance of his "treatment" of any charges. Therefore, no debts. If only.
He is an elderly man with confirmed psychological issues and has recently been admitted to a care home. I am hoping that this might mitigate any future judgements against him. I have only recently learned of his debts, and am doing my best to help him sort things out, but he sees my intervention as interference. He already has charging orders against his property, but I am lead to believe that the local council do not intend to force sale for payment - yet.
So, despite his "higher principles", whatever they might be, he'll just end up paying anyway.
Thanks again for all your advice.

Hi, just trying to help and I hope I don't offend you but have you looked into whether your father might qualify as a person with a SMI (severe mental impairment) if that is the case it will have a major impact on how much CT he owes as he would be exempt.

I am under no illusion that successive governments will seriously damage my wealth (or lack of it)

Do not patronise me, I am perfectly aware there are 2 sides to every story.

    Why?

or attend one of his court cases like the one in Birkenhead recently.

I don't have enough time to do the things I want to do

    Open your mind.......

My mind has been open for a very long time

Look in the mirror, you may see the one who has been brainwashed.

One last point, if there was a loophole in council tax legislation so people didn't have to pay, how many seconds do you think would elapse before the government amended the legislation so there was no loophole.

Ive dealt with cases where people have quoted similar but when they have realised that the available enforcement options will be used then they generally pay without too much of a full.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.

now that the average tax take is more than 50% of GDP, expect to see more of these protests from people who ask "am I a free man or am I just a tax slave".

Hence the tax cuts and the amount of tax being used to service the increasing debt.

The chap who posted the question hasn't been back since he posted in January. But, hey, if you just want a soapbox, why not?
