Yes it's fiber optic. I don't have a VM phone line.

I can't get through to anyone English to ask them to run the line test. I asked the indian guy I spoke to last who said he can't do that as there's no problem with my line.

It's fibre optic as far as the street Mux & DA (Distribution Amp) & then copper from their to your street cabinet (DP) which can be up to 1/2 a mile from your home.Your Broadband is connected to the DA & works over the same system as the TV Service.

Sounds to me like you have a return path issue.Nothing you can do,you need a Service Tech out to check the signal levels.Does your modem & STB get hot?...

The Indian call centres' knowledge and systems might not be as good as the UK, but come on, if you are having trouble communicating with them then don't you think it might be your English skills that are lacking? They speak to dozens of other people each day who have no problem.

Then it's my English, I have zero problem saying that, and either way, their English is 100% better than my Indian.

TBH. I couldn't give a flying crap what it is, I'm paying for 50meg, and getting 2meg. Be it their English or mine, they're no help, it takes ten minutes to get my name and post code across, and they seem to have zero comprehension of the problem at all.

All I want it to get the service I'm paying for.

Im not playing the racist card here, but have you ever tried to deal with them??

As with the banks and everyone else whos jumped on the 'save money' bandwagon, I find it near impossible to communicate. And even when I do I find their 'help' next to useless

I also dont see how somone in India is going to help me with my signal better than somone in the uk (Has anyone had theirs checked by anyone in India??)

There is nothing racist about wanting to be able to understand a CS or TS rep and have some confidence that they understand you. With many offshore call centres the chances are neither will be the case.

If you don't want to talk to VM offshore reps about a connection problem then use the VM forum. It does take a couple of days to get a response but it will probably still be quicker. There is a sticky on the board on how to find your voltage levels and it pays to paste those in along with the event log. If you don't they'll probably ask for the info and that will be another 2 days down the tubes.

If the problem is not about the actual connection but maybe something like getting WiFi working you'll be better off asking on this board.

Called just after 8 this morning on advice taken from the virgin media forum.

Turns out there's a problem in my area, but the fix date isn't till feb 10th. Not happy.

Wifi works fine, has done since I first set it up about three years ago. Had it just been the one computer I'd have assumed it was a wifi issue, but for them all to go down, and for the connection on my desktop, which is wired to the router, to be super slow. It had to be the connection.

IMO it's worth calling again to see if you get the same answer (I've seen suggestions that some reps fob callers off with any old tosh). If you do then as that is a month away and probably won't happen anyway ask about a discount.

Was planning on doing that in the morning. Thanks though, I'd not have thought of asking for discount.

Pity bt infinity isn't available in my area yet. Fastest my ADSL my line can handle is 4mb. So if I want a decent connection, VM is my oly option.

I thought there was a dedicated UK based helpline for the 50 and 100mb service (could be wrong though). Might be 0800-052-0431
There is a dedicated section on the VM supports forums though for 50mb.

Definitely worth it, if I recall I got 2 months internet free due to all the problems I'd been having
