  • Hi ladies!

I am a May 2012 bride, can I join? Wedding is booked for 12th May!

Church wedding, then reception at our local village hall.

I still have almost everything to do. I can't even decide on a colour theme! I am off to try on some dresses next Saturday though!

Any tips on how to handle a bridal shop (I have no experience of this and don't know what to say when they ask me my budget - as little as I can get away with!)

    Hi Skyvicky123

I have no idea but I'll find out :D I'm also starting dress shopping next weekend - I figure I'll just tell them my date but they don't need to know anything about budget. I'll just have to sneak a peak at the price tags before finding the one.

    Hi Skyvicky123

I only went to 2 bridal shops but both of them asked me to fill in forms before I looked at any dresses.

The forms asked for contact details, date of wedding, budget etc.

Both shops I went in didn't seem too keen on letting you see the tags and basically showed me what was in my price range or just over. The second shop wouldn't let me try on a dress I liked because it was £3000 and I would never be able to buy it with my budget!

I think the reason they're not keen on you trying stuff over your budget or looking at the tags is because they don't want you going off and finding it cheaper elsewhere, which of course we all try to do anyway. I couldn't find my dress cheaper anywhere else sadly and despite having ordered it in March, I still have an eBay alert set up and it's still never come up. Just a word of warning, my dress was ordered in March as I said but it's not arriving until January. I don't know if this is common for all designers but you may want to bear this in mind when you go and look at dresses.

    Hope this helps.

The first 3 places I went to needed at least 6 months from ordering before the wedding. The place I got my dress from gave it to me straight away because it was a sample dress.
  • Thanks guys. If they ask me what my budget is I really don't know what to say...I want to find a an amazing sample bargain for £300 or less, but in the ack of my mind I have an absolute maximum of 1K to spend (but I don't want to!)

Will let you know how it goes, I get the impression that this is a bit of an upmarket place so hope I am not being unrealistic!

  • finally made appointments to try on dresses and my second shop is having a sample sale on the same day - this is either going to be a disaster or brilliant as I only get to try on 5 :D I'll have to make full use of my first shop and might just strike it lucky.

skyvicky I am in the same position as you - although I could go up to £1K the idea of spending that on a dress to wear once is just

if all else fails my parents' neighbour is a costume maker so could either make a dress if I decide what I like or alter one that isn't quite right.

Afternoon all, not been around for a while due to holidays, busy at work etc..

Hope everyones plans are going well!

I feel like I should have done so much more, but havent!

Where is everyone in their planning?

    I have done the following:

    1. Venue (changed venue and date twice!!)
    2. Registrar booked and notice given
    3. Cake ordered
    4. Cheese cake ordered
    5. My dress, bought off ebay - still havent tried it on properly yet!
    6. Bridesmaid dress bought
    7. Suit hire sorted (went to a wedding fayre last week with a reluctant groom, amazingly, he had a good time and sorted his suits out while we were there!!)
    8. Band hired
    9. STD arrived, just need to send them now
    10. Invite sample requested
    11. Tog - half sorted - long story!!
    12. Booked honeymoon!!! Going to Italy, cant wait
    13. Got stuff to make evening invitations
    14. Hotel booked for night before and night of wedding.

Phew, seems a lot, but it seems like we have SO much more still to do!!!
Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!
  • I still haven't done that much, mostly the action has been in my head:

1 - booked venue, deposit paid
2 - spoke to/booked priest pending SMC course
3 - told guests (in lieu of STDs, my mum can do it so much better by just talking to all the people as she normally does)
4 - make first draft of the seating plan (in a coffee shop with OH midweek)
5 - appointments made to try on dresses next weekend
6 - discussed menu but still deciding on caterers - venue has 4 preferred suppliers
7 - started looking at photographers
8 - cake being made by an aunty, decorated by a friend of a friend
9 - my mum is in the wings ready to pounce on making invites etc once we pick the material/style
10 - chosen honeymoon but not booked anything yet
11 - booked the two cottages next to my venue for the weekend

    Hey, I got to 11!

Anyhow just found out that half of OH's family either aren't coming to the wedding or will be coming under protest as there is another wedding on the same day. Neither scenario is ideal - I do not want grumpy guests wishing they were 60 miles away however nor do I want my family to outnumber his by 6:1. It was bad enough when he only had 20 but now it's going down to 10! May have to send him out in to the world to make 10 new friends as this is going to be a very one-sided affair!

  • hello to all the new posters!

Glad to see everyone is getting on well with their plans! Ours have kind of taken a back seat in the past few weeks, as our landlord gave us notice as he wants to sell our house! Thankfully we have a found somewhere else, so moving in two weeks!

Went to a wedding fair with my mum today, on the look out for a florist as it's the only big thing we have left to sort. Had a nice day out, and got lots of price lists and ideas. So will get onto that properly once we move.

Got slight dilemma with music for the ceremony. Me and OH would really like 3 of his nieces to play, they are sisters and one plays guitar, one the violin and one the viola. But we are worried about his other nieces feeling left out.

A bit of back ground, OH has 8 neices. His two oldest brothers have 3 girls each, and his sister has 2 girls.
His sister's eldest girl is flower girl, the youngest will only be 12 months so won't really feel left out if she's not involved.
His eldest brother's girls are the three we would like to play.
But we don't know how to involve the other 3 girls. It would just feel a bit strange having two 'sides' of OH's family involved, and not the 3rd, and we wouldn't want to cause any family fall outs! Any suggestions how we could get them involved? The girls are aged 16, 12 and 7.
