  • 6 months today!!!! :j :j:j :T :j

Just realised it has been ages since I updated, which is probably because I haven't had a lot to add :o

Finally got my dress sorted and have started on the bridesmaids. I'm looking at dresses in this style http://www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/warehouse/Dresses/Ombre-Jacquard-Prom-Dress/201433767 . Also really like this one http://www.phase-eight.co.uk/fcp/product/warehouse/Dresses/V-Neck-Sasha-Dress/201434937, although my bridesmaids feel it may be too busy for them. The high street has proved to be disappointing so it's back to trawling the internet now.

May even have the photographer picked which would be a bonus. Potential hairdresser was recommended today so that is another contact to investigate. There is not going to be enough time in the day for me to even contemplate doing my own hair: it's bad enough trying to sort on a regular day, on my wedding day there would be tears and probably me yelling why won't you curl the OTHER WAY!

Got the SMC course this weekend - the things I do for my wedding! Sitting in a room with my OH for 10 hours without just taking the mick is gong to be very difficult, we only just manage to get through the hour sessions with the priest.

bride2be2012 - here's hoping you find out where you stand soon.

bride2be2012, I really hope things work out with your OH's job. Would be such a shame to have to postpone your plans. :(

I can't quite believe it's nearly 6 months to go! My stomach does a little flip every time I remember that!

clairus, I'm going for PDA invites as well (though am going to give home printing a go!). Thanks for the heads-up about the sale. I'll keep my eyes peeled for that!

Great news about getting your flowergirl dresses sorted. Wedding teddies sound like a really cute idea too.

stationaryace, those BM dresses are fab! Very elegant and stylish.

Is the SMC course compulsory? I'm guessing it's similar to the wedding preparation session me and H2B have to do in a couple of weeks' time. It's only half a day, so I'm hoping that's short enough to avoid my semi-athiest OH putting his foot in it!

Other developments with me: my dress arrived! I love it! It was a bit of a risk (buying via eBay), but it's really well made, and the lace and beading is gorgeous. I just have to keep on the old diet and exercise regime to make sure I fit into it!

I also got my shoes (amazing eBay bargain - £150 pair for £21!) and booked hair stylists for me and my BMs, all to be done in Mad Men/'60s styles.

Next on the to-do list is to make the final touches to our wedding website, send out our Save the Dates (via email), order the pocketfolds and inserts, and start pricing up rings and flowers. Oh, and make a start on some of my DIY projects! :)
  • Hi everyone

Well, I don't want to jinx things, but it looks as if OH job is safe for just now. Someone else in his depot resigned and someone else just had a temp contract which hasn't been renewed. However, in typical fashion for his work, nothing has been said from management! OH was asked yesterday to put his holiday requests in for Xmas so we're assuming he still has a job til at least the new year! Just wish he could get something from higher up, even verbally, but they are so bad at communicating it's unbelievable!

So I'm cracking on with the planning! Goldsmith/tesco vouchers have now been ordered, and am going to see the florist again on Thu, and will get her booked (hopefully she's still free on our date lol!). I have my 2 months off from paying council tax in Dec and Jan, so that will let me pay off the photographer. And was trying to organise someone to do the alterations for our dresses, but then realised we don't have shoes sorted yet, so there's not a lot of point!

Hope everyone else's is planning is going well...I'm not quite at the 6 months yet (another 11 days and I will be!)
  • well, that's my florist booked! :j

A bit more than I was hoping to spend, but my lovely best friend and bridesmaid is paying half instead of getting us a wedding present. And she has also offered to pay for someone to come and do our make up for the wedding (was just planning on doing it myself) as a special present just to me :o feel vvv lucky today!

Hope everyone else is having a good day!x
  • bride2be, that's great news about your OH - I hope he gets the official green light soon. And what a generous best friend/BM you have! Gestures like that really make a difference - I have a lovely workmate who's offered to make our wedding cake/cupcakes as her present to us. That's saved us at least £150, probably more.

Though you've reminded me that I need to sort our flowers. I have to keep the budget for this quite small, so it might just be a bouquet for me and button-holes for my OH, the best man and ushers. But, if we can afford it, I would love to have little posies for the bridesmaids too. I've no idea about the cost, though, so I'd best start doing my homework. What's everyone else doing flowers-wise?

I'd also love to hear what you've all decided on for colours/theme-wise. It might help me figure out my other flower dilemma: colours. Our colour scheme is midnight blue and silver (with a bit of 1960s/Mad Men styling here and there), but my dress is a very light champagne (sort of a warm ivory), so I don't want to go too white/silver with the flowers in case they clash with my dress. The BMs will be in navy dresses and silver shoes, so at the moment, I'm torn between going bright for the bridesmaids (eg fuschia/pinks) and cream flowers for me, or peachy/blush colours for me and creamy/white flowers for the BMs. Decisions, decisions.....
  • oooh bride2be :j things are looking up!

MsShopper - yes the SMC course is compulsory for us to get married in our church. on the plus side we don't have to attend X many services together (I personally go every other week but my OH doesn't). also met with the priest over 4 x 1 hours sessions and my OH has managed to keep all the Father Ted quotes/jokes restrained until the walk home - I'm so proud!

I'm going for brighter colours for my flowers to avoid any dress clashes and undecided about the others. Colour scheme has not been finalised yet - plus my bridesmaid lurks on here for her own wedding so I'm trying not to give away too many details, was so much easier when I was anonymous! - but I do like bold colours.

    yay for cupcakes :T

  • thanks guys!

We're not really having a colour scheme. My bridesmaid's dresses are a claret colour, and for flowers I'm having mainly mango cala lillies. My florist recommended staying away from white/pale flowers, as it can sometimes look a bit funny in the photo's against your dress - soemthing to do with light and colours, I wasn't really listening properly!
  • :( the dreaded winter lurgy has hit our household, and with all effort required for just getting to and from work the inclination for wedding planning has been put on hold for a week.

OH has his outfit sorted and we've settled on a caterer, but as we don't want to spread the bugs meeting them to finalise the menu has had to be put off for a few weeks.

giving in and seeing the doc on monday so hopefully won't feel like this at the 5 month mark (one week tomorrow )

  • Hope you are feeling better soon Stationeryace.

Well, we passed the 6 month mark yesterday! :j

Haven't done much else planning wise, but OH now has his best man sorted (his eldest brother) and my mum has her outfit sorted, which I'm going to see this afternoon.

Looking at ordering stationery for the invites soon, but the dog has been ill and so his vet bills had to come first :( (annoyingly they are just under his insurance excess!). Think he's on the mend now, thankfully.

6 months yesterday for us too!

We hadn't done much weddingy stuff recently

I had tried to sort out a shopping weekend with the bridesmaids but we can't find a weekend that we are all free to meet up before March, so we are attempting a different plan of attack now.

We had also been trying to figure out what to do about centrepieces. We want to use our paper cranes but couldn't figure out a way to display them, then I stumbled across this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/images/B000KPJEZC/ref=dp_image_z_0?ie=UTF8&n=11052681&s=kitchen
with a view to dangling the paper cranes off it...but at £24 each wasn't really practical. I was going to attempt to make a homemade version with my dad over Christmas, but I was wandering around Home Bargains yesterday and found the same thing, just not branded, for £3.99! Our branch didn't have enough so I had to get my mum to go to their branch, but now we are hopefully sorted for centrepieces!
