MsShopper, sounds like you are well underway now you are 'official'!
Going for my second (and possibly last!) dress trip today-wide awake at 0530 on a Saturday, can't ever manage that during the week!
Going to two shops today, one picked from the Yellow Pages and then back to the shop I went to last weekend to see 'my' dress. My mum and sister came last weekend and we all loved the dress but going back with a friend to make sure we weren't just caught up in the excitement.
Have also found myself dedicating all my time to folding 1000 origami paper cranes as part of my decoration-apparently Japanese tradition says that if you fold 1000 cranes, your wish will come true. We saw them in Japan last year and I loved photographing all the colours. 460 cranes in and I am beginning to wish I never thought of it!0 -
Clairus, I love that idea of the paper cranes! (Though your hands must be in pieces!) How are you planning to incorporate them in your room decoration?0

I'm not totally sure how we will work the cranes in. I love this photo but don't know if we can pull it off!
Also, the deposit has been put down on the wedding dress!0 -
Ah, clairus, that's gorgeous. Perhaps you could string them on sturdy nylon thread (like fishing line/wire), maybe weighted at the bottom to keep them straight, and attach the threads to a baton to create a kind of backdrop?
Ooh, and good news about the dress deposit! Can I ask which one you're going for?0 -
@ruthybabs you did a lot in the space of a few days! Fish & chips and ice cream by the sea sounds absolutely lovely.
I'm so jealous you have found your dress @clairus - I seem to have tried on loads and while some of them looked great, I want a 'wow' dress - and so I've still yet to find 'The One'. I'm starting to panic that I'll never find the right one _pale_! And I'm sure my bridesmaids have had enough of ooohing and aaaahing & being dragged to bridal shops!
Anyway, next on the list are to book a DJ & cars, and to see if we can afford venue draping/uplighting/chair covers...0 -
Hello fellow May brides! I need some advice/reassuring please...
I'm about to put in an order for a wedding dress, from a UK-based online-only bridal store. I've checked them out (contacted past customers, got fabric samples, photos of the exact beads being used etc), so I think I've done everything I can in terms of making sure I won't end up with something cheap/nasty looking.
It's the kind of style I've been looking for (grown-up, a little bit vintage-y), and they'll even make me a matching bolero jacket - perfect bingo wing camouflage! :rotfl:And it's also within my budget, just about.
The only thing is, I've looked at the pics of the dress so many times over the past few weeks that I'm no longer seeing it with the excitement I had when I first came across it. So (especially as I can't see it in real life or try it on), I'm now worried that it's not The Dress, that maybe it's too plain or not bridal-y enough, and maybe I'm taking a big risk in not doing the traditional bridal shop thing.
So bearing in mind the style I'm after, can I ask for your thoughts/impressions? (Sorry, I'm not normally one for wibbles like this!)0 -

What a glamourous dress!
Bear with me for my convoluted story/advice:
When we were deciding where to have our ceremony, I toyed with with having it in a hotel and not doing the church part (OH was happy either way). After 5 mins of thinking about not marrying in a church I knew that actually it was important to me for us to marry in a church-decision made!
ANYWAY, my point is, think about how you would feel if you couldn't have that dress-upset/not bothered? Could you leave it for a week and decide whether you are not really fussed or actually love it?
Perhaps you could find a similar style in a bridal shop just to get you excited again?

Thanks clairus, that's actually really helpful advice. I did not like the idea of not being able to have the dress at all - I guess I definitely do want to order it! I'll just have to have faith in my original feelings about it.
How's the crane making going?0 -
MsShopper - I kind of know how you feel. I didn't do the whole bridal shop thing, I only went to one shop on the spur of the moment, and didn't find 'the one' on that trip. But I did find out what style I liked, and within a week I found a dress I really liked on e-bay at a bargain price. When it was delivered and I tried it on, I knew it was 'the one'. Sometimes now when I see pics of it (actual dress is at my mums), I don't feel as excited as I did and wish I'd tried more on in the shops. But then I go to my mums and try it on, and all the excitement comes back! So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, wait until you have your dress, and get to try it on. I'm sure you will be over the moon!
BTW, it is a gorgeous dress!
Well, we have a reception venue booked! It's the place we saw a few weeks ago, my mum and I went back to see it at the weekend set up for a wedding and it looked so much better. They are also licensed to hold ceremonies, so we are trying to decide if we should just have the whole thing there.
Bad news is the b****Y car broke down again, so has been replaced - luckily OH is quite car savvy and got us on old run around with a years MOT for £400. As long as it lasts until after the wedding without needing money spent on it, I'll be happy!0 -
Hi bridetobe - hearing that you had a good eBay experience has helped. That's where I found my dress. Fingers crossed mine works out the same!
Glad to hear you've booked the venue and it's going to look how you want it. Is that the one at the golf course?
And I'll cross my fingers for you that the car holds out until after next May. £400 - very MSE!0
