Argh, am I only one having seemingly pointless arguments with my OH over the details of our wedding? (Well, argument is quite a strong term, we both tend to discuss in a tense & defensive manner before sulking!) The seemingly pointless debate last night was over DIY photobooths. Ruthybabs I love that you are surprising your OH with a fully manned one! I wanted one but due to the fact I seem to be overspending on all areas of my budget  , I thought it'd be a good idea to do it ourselves - put a digital camera on a tripod, bring along a box of props (we have a lot of fancy dress stuff already) and then give the guests a link to a website where I'll upload the photos post-wedding. I thought it would be something fun for the guests to get involved in and I can get the photos printed off and send them out to the guests with my thank you notes written on the back. All a great idea I thought but when I suggested this to OH last night, he told me it seemed a lot of effort & it would be unncessary to provide guests with activities. Hmph.
Now of all the weddings I've been to, I remember a lot of waiting around, so I have put a lot of thought into 'activities' & I'm hiring some outdoor giant games and planning a form of picture quiz, as well as the photobooth. All pretty MSE and I'm sure it's the quirky details that guests will remember. He grudgingly agreed! I wouldn't mind so much but the OH told me he wasn't interested in the detailed stuff (he's been allocated the big things to organise eg: cars, music, DJs etc) but now he wants to argue over everything from the colour of the invitations (that was last week's debate!) to the photobooth, so I think there's more to come!
On the plus side I think I found my dress yesterday! After trying on about 40 dresses in recent weeks, I was seriously worried I was never going to find it, but I put it on and I am sure it's The One. And it's about the only element so far which has come in on budget. Phew!0 -
I've recently finally booked our wedding for 26 May 2012. It's taken forever to get to this stage but now I get to do all the nice stuff
We've booked a folly for the ceremony, this is the expensive bit, but a tiny village hall on the edge of Dartmoor for the reception and am doing all that part myself as i'm only having about 45 guests.0 -
Hi Poppleminster, I'm a 26th Bride too! It took us a long while to get to this stage too, but its a lot of fun now we're here! (well it would be, if the cars didn't always need money spent on them at the moment!).x0

I completely understand that comment, our car cost us over a grand in the last three months. I don't drive but OH has to for work and it's so frustrating to get enough saved to use then watch it wing it's way straight down to the garage.
Hopefully we'll be lucky, this May was the driest in decades and all the flowers were out early so it was beautiful. You resalise the bank holiday is the week after 26th? They moved it to be in line with the Queen's event so luckily our flowers etc should not double in price like those of the poor people who were booked to get married on the same day as Prince William!0 -
yes, I'm quite glad about the bank holiday being moved! Initally we were looking at the weekend after (our 4 year anniversary falls during the week - 31st May), but our photographer (old friend) was already booked on the 2 June. So it all worked out well in the end!0

Cool. I cringed when I found out about the bank holiday but when I realised why they'd moved it I was more relived that my registrar, venue and flower costs were not about to be increased! Some poor people had their venues try and double their costs for the weekend that Wills got married purely saying they had to pay staff extra when in fact, the staff had no extra pay at all as it was a standard saturday and not a bank holiday for them! Shocking business practise but lots of people did it.0

My wedding is on a bank holiday - 7th May.
My flower costs are exactly the same whatever day I get married.
The registrar costs are about £100 more expensive because it is a bank holiday.
But.. The reason why I chose a bank holiday is because..
My venue classes a bank holiday as any other weekday and they have a weekday promotion of 20% off the final bill and free chair covers and loads of other stuff so I am saving quite a lot because it is a bank holiday. My guest minimum is also lower because it is a weekday. My minimum is 50, Saturday is 70 and Sunday is 60 and my guests are not at work.
So I think I am lucky that I got a bank holiday, it was the last one at my venue because it is such a great deal.0 -
Wow you are lucky! That's a cool deal and nice to hear some places don't just try and get extra money out of us for no reason! Your registrar costs are cheaper too, ours wantred an extra £180 for a bank holiday. It just shows they must all charge differently.0

Another date twin here!
Not done too much in the way of wedding stuff this week (and I am ignoring my big box of unfolded origami paper...) but this weekend we are going to start looking at invites. I'd like to make them, OH not too interested in cutting, sticking and folding so it is looking like us designing them and using Vistaprint or similar to print them.
Anyone decided on when they are sending their invites out yet?
X0 -
I've made mine but used vistapring for the inserts. If you sign up to their site but don't buy anything on that occassion, they will relentlessly send you special offers
Their slow postage also arrives just as fast as their 2 week service usually so don't pay the extra.
Not sure when to send them out yet though. I want to do it now because i'm really impatient but that's probably a bad idea. Maybe Feb 2012 or is that too late?0
