    Hi Everyone,

Sounds like everyone is well on with planning now. Loving reading about venues and dresses.

My next big jobs are picking/designing stationary and wedding dress shopping, so I am going to try on some dresses for the first time with my mum and sister on Saturday. It is possibly going to be incredibly exciting, or hugely awful when nothing matches my imaginary dresses...

But unfortunately they are already booked on our wedding day! I'm totally gutted!

Couldn't you change the day? Or is the day special like an anniversary or something?

Yeah, it's our four year anniversary that weekend, so don't really want to change it! Plus already have our photographer booked for the 26th as well.

We are going back to see the first venue next weekend, set up for a wedding, so hopefully it will look a lot better all set out nicely!

Hello all! Hope everyone had a top weekend, and the planning is coming along nicely!

Despite promising myself that I wouldn't look at dresses until later in the year (trying to shift some pounds!), I spotted a gorgeous one on eBay over the weekend and think it might be The One. I contacted the seller (by the looks of it, a small internet-only bridal shop) to get a sample of the fabric, so I can check the quality/finish. Assuming that's okay, I'll be ordering it! Woo hoo!

Bonus is, she says she can make me a bolero/jacket in the same fabric (ivory lace with champagne accents in the beading). Think it should all come in under £300. Double bonus! :D

Only other issue is the size - I'm going to have to order it two sizes below my current one, with the assumption I can lose a pound a week until the wedding. Fingers crossed!!

    Hi everyone
I haven't logged on in ages but hello to my new date twins! I'm enjoying reading about everyone's plans. We've had a quiet few months after booking the venue/photographer but have been stepping up the planning in recent weeks! I wanted a midnight/silver theme (great minds...@MsShopper, @Ruthybabs!)but had to change it to fit in with our venue. The function room has a low ceiling so thought a lighter colour would look better so we've gone for light green/gold.
As I'm half-Chinese, we're incorporating some Asian elements into the day eg: lots of orchids, chopsticks/chinese fans as favours, chinese paper parasols...and I'm desperately trying to convince my dad to pay for a Chinese lion dance at the reception!!!
OH is looking into cars and DJ/band (although I don't think we can afford a band!).
I'm meeting a company in a few weeks to get a quote on decorating our reception room. We love our hotel but its function room was nearly a deal breaker as it's very corporate so needs dressing (I'm thinking draping and clever lighting!).
Have also been scouring the sales - have picked up jewellery for the BMs (half price), beautiful photoframes for table numbers (£25 down to £7.50!), cheap fabrics to make my own bunting & a few bits for my flower girl.
I tried on dresses for the first time on Saturday. I was terrified! It was all ok though. I did think I wanted something quite plain and simple - however, my favourites were the total opposite! I felt like a princess! I found some contenders but am going to continue to try on a few more over the next few weekends.
It's all very exciting and seems less daunting now but I do seem to be spending a huge amount of time thinking or googling ideas when I'm supposed to be working!!!

I'd seriously recommend you get either your current size or only one size down. Dresses can easily be taken in but it's VERY hard to let them out and it's one more stress you dont need in the last few weeks before the wedding!!

Chances are the stress in the run up will make you lose those last few pounds but you want to be comfortable in your dress, too.

Thanks ickle yoda - you're absolutely right about the dress adjustments. But if my pound-a-week goal works out, I should be a bit under that size, so that will leave me some wiggle room, all going well.

I've lost six pounds already (started properly two weeks ago) and have just over ten months to go. Plus, I am unbelievably determined when I set my mind on something! :)

    Hi girls

Been lurking for a few days keeping an eye on everyone and glad to see all the little details coming together. Exciting about your dress @msshopper, hope the fabric is as nice as the pictures look. Not sure when I'll get chance to go looking, but hoping to organise something soon. How did your trip go @clairus?
@bride2be i hope the venue is lovely when you see it, i'm sure it will be. Function rooms are very similar unless you're having somewhere like a barn so it's the little touches that you incorporate and the people you care about being there that will make it special.
@cleverclogs -the asian touches sound great-I hope you get your lion dance! I used to live near chinatown in Manchester and took the children up to see them at chinese new year they're great-are they traditional at weddings too or just a unique touch?

I haven't really been able to do anything else this week as family still don't know yet, (my dds are bursting!) and can't confirm anything until OH has a look and sees what he thinks. The good news is that he's on his way to the airport and will be home this afternoon! So it should be full steam ahead! Registrar is booked for Friday morning for us to give notice and tomorrow we'll be able to look through everything together and make some decisions and make our announcements! However, tonight will just be nice to have him home as he has been away a month, so by the time we've had tea, he's had his birthday presents (he missed his birthday) and I get the kids to bed so I can get near him (they've missed him more than I have!) will have some catching up to do of our own ;-) Have a good day all xx

Glad to hear your H2B is on his way home, ruthybabs! A month away, wow! You must have missed him terribly. Hope you have a brilliant reunion, and enjoy telling everyone the good news! :D

Awww, I hope you have a lovely evening catching up with your OH ruthybabs! You must be bursting to tell everyone the good news - I hope everyone gets very excited for you! Btw, lion dances are a common event at Chinese weddings. It usually ends with the lion having to eat a cabbage strung from the ceiling...it is as weird as it sounds and I forget the reason why but it's all very entertaining - haha!
