Think its a fair point to make that you need to BT line for this, not everyone gets their broadband via ADSL. Some may get it via cable and so it is not available to them if they don't have a BT line.
so that means you post is errm useless and errm rude :rolleyes:0 -
Would you not have some comeback on the finance company as you're paying for a pc and broadband and if the company goes belly up then I'd hope for some protection via the finance company ?0

That's a good question. I don't know the answer though - I guess it will depend upon how the "goods" or "service" to be provided are defined as part of the agreement with the finance company.0 -
Rex_Mundi wrote:I would urge caution with taking out such a long term contract with an ISP. Both E7broadband and Euro1Net offered cheap internet access deals based on longer term contracts (one or two years). Both of these companies folded this year (leaving many thousands of people stranded with no internet access) because they weren't financially viable.
I see someone pointed out that the cost (minus £500 for the PC) left the internet at £7.50 a month. I can't see this working. For every customer an ISP has on the BT network (not LLU), they have to pay BT £8.50 a month plus they pay extra for the bandwidth used (this is why you see so many capped deals now, to keep the BT wholesale bill down for the ISP).
If this company is using the BT network, these figures don't add up. You will be stuck in a three year contract with them if they start having problems.
You're right about the wholesale costs from BT, though I guess that in 2-3 years time these may fall? Also, the ISP is backed by Watford Electronics (been going 30-odd years) who will, I guess, be able to produce these machines themselves at a price cheaper than £500.0 -
I thought being locked into a 12 month contract was bad enough but 3 years is bolted in. :lipsrseal
Seems unsustainable to me i guess we will know in about 3 years time or maybe 6 months. :EasterBun*Steve*

Redten Internet, a subsidiary of Watford Electronics, has announced a broadband deal which includes a £500 PC bundle as part of a £19.99 per month, three year broadband contract.
The bundle has been created in partnership with BT Wholesale, Intel, Microsoft and LG Electronics and includes an LG flat-screen monitor, Microsoft Windows XP MCE 2005 operating system, Intel Pentium 4 processor, DVD writer, multimedia functionality and stereo speakers. The package is backed by a 3-year warranty and an anti-virus and parental-control software suite.
Not sure if its any good or not full details here:

Who would? with a 3yr contract. not a good deal in my opinion.0 -
What happened? the post is blank on my screen but you can obviously see it. For those that cannot, I just wanted to know if anyone had taken up the offer?
It doesn't seem too bad. for £20/month you get a reasonable spec. pc, so even if you assume half charges go to the broadband - £10/month. The other £10 goes to paying for the PC - over 3 years that's £360, probably a bit less than the actual value of the PC, including warranty etc.
Only reason I'm asking is that it would suit a friend of mine who is currently paying AOL £15/month for a basic connection & cannot afford a brand new PC to take advantage of it, so for the extra £5 a month it would suit him - I just don't know anything about the company.0
