  • Everything is OK so far this week. And interestingly, Redten have removed the 'Ran out of PCs' notice from their website. Apparently the offer is back on.

    Hi Rex,

While I appreciate you feel you may be 'looking out for others', I should point out that Redten Internet is a brand of Redten Communications Ltd. The recent acquisition of Watford Electronics Ltd by Globally Ltd will not be affecting us or our customers.

    Regards,
    Mark.

So how come you (Redten Communication) have the same registered address as Watford Electronics, and Globally Limited ?

Sorry, the offer is not back on. They have just moved the 'ran out of PCs' notice further down the ordering process.

In other news, there is now nobody answering the customer services line. Just a recorded message using the no PCs left excuse.

Looks like bad news doesn't it? I had a funny feeling something like this would happen. How many isps do you know get you to pay 3 years upfront by signing up to a interest free loan in your own name???

For some reason I still signed up tho! I've got the pc and the packaging still so hopefully if all goes pete tong then I can send it back and just cancel the direct debit like they said to some magazine earlier. Now I've got a funny feeling that the finance company will still be coming after me for the money I "owe" them. Makes me wonder why they would agree to give out loads of interest free loans to redten if they didn't know something like this was going to happen? Surely they (V12Finance) could've put that money to much better use? I mean if they'd put the money in a high interest bank account they'd have got at least 5% return per annum. I'm assuming that they have to borrow the money at approx 5% anyway, unless they have loads available? Even banks have to borrow money to give people mortgages etc so let's say that they were doing it cos they're nice, that means that out of the £700 borrowed redten only get to see just under £600 of it. It probably costs them £300 to supply and deliver etc the pc. So that leaves £300, or £100 per annum to supply your broadband and even then they would make absolutely no profit. Now I've done the maths I've got a funny feeling my internet connection is going to be cut off about now..........
  • fangbang, maybe you should update your timeline in your sig to show the moment you found out your internet connection is about to be wiped out! And your free pc taken away and they ask you for another £500 on top of the £700 you've already been conned out of because the packaging wasn't kep in the condition it arrived in! I mean who can keep the packaging in the condition it arrived in, you have to open the blimming thing don't you? Mine came with red wine all over it but I got it in writing that they can't charge me anything for it as the box was damaged on arrival.

I don't know whether to feel sick, or naively keep my fingers crossed.

I'm not impressed at the lack of communication from Redten to their customers. A quick email would be a major reassurance!

It took me a couple of weeks, but I managed to place the order (which is being handled by a third-party company in Germany). As the fulfilment isn't managed by Watford or RedTen I'm hopeful that the upgrade will actually materialise. I had a confirmation email a few days later stating they will begin shipping the upgrades from the end of Feb. Fingers crossed.

As for those of you who bought through the monthly agreement - it's worth checking your rights on this. Effectively, you've paid for a 3-year service, and as the anount you paid is over £100 you may well find you have a claim against the credit company as well as RedTen if the service goes t1ts-up. UK credit laws state that the credit provider has equal responsibility to the company you've bought the goods/services from in these matters.

So, worst case scenario - if our Broadband supply was cut off, how would we go about takng things further?
