AHA!! So Inactive, where exactly are you getting this snooker in HD? I haven't seen any.
tifo, you mean HD isn't worth it on SKY. Not everyone gets gouged £10 every month for the pleasure! You also grossly misunderstand HD. Let's say you've a 40 inch, 1080 TV. You're watching SD TV on it. That's 570 (ish) vertical pixels of information, 'blown up' onto 1080 vertical pixels. Now switch to an HD channel, you're watching 1080 pixels of information, straight onto 1080 pixels.
was on BBC HD a couple of days ago
however im on the pro HD side.
we had an LG 37" TV
We then got a surround set up as those flat panel speakers are weedy
i thin felt it was too small, and went for a 50" plasma
some HD stuff on the TV is stunning, some is alright
however all out SD stuff is upscaled
The real HD is when you have bluray or we are streaming HD media from the PC
awesome. nobody could say otherwise if they saw and heard it on a decent set up0 -

Have a look at the above link for just one direct comparison between HD & SD. The pictures where it shows the guy with stubble. You can surely see the difference between the two pictures?
Then when this applied to HD films or sports etc. the difference is huge between SD & HD.
Then again, if you are just sat watching a programme in SD and have a decent picture and aren't bothered or looking for the differences, then you won't notice them.
Is this thread really about the difference between HD & SD, or is it that some people begrudge paying Sky £10 per month to have HD?
For me HD doesn't just end with watching tv, I use it when gaming and when watching films, the difference for me is very noticeable and it doesn't cost me any more than I would have to pay for the equivalent in SD.0 -
Aren’t you all just arguing over the distance you sit from Tele? I have 37” Panasonic HD TV and at my normal viewing distance about 10ft I can’t see any difference if I move closer I can but like inactive I don’t want to sit on nearer my TV. As to why buy a HD TVs well most good TVs are HD now and I wanted built in freesat. Also regarding upscaling if detail isn’t there you can’t just magic it up and if you can why subscribe to HD channels.0

to ME, HD on Sky is NOT worth the extra £10. And yes, everyone who wants to watch HD on Sky HAS to pay the extra fee. Excluding any discount/offer you might negotiate.
I've been a Sky customer for over 12 years and they've NEVER given me any discount/offer. I've even left a few times and there were no retention deals offered to me. So as a company, I don't rate them as customer centric. I've even introduced people to Sky and neither of us have received the promised gift/voucher etc.
That's my own opinion, others might be happy with them.0 -

No you don't, there are lots of free HD channels if you do not subscribe to HD, including ITV, BBC and BBC ONE.

That's a few channels only, at the most BBC, Ch 4 and Five and a few others. And those within their 12 month initial contract have no choice but to pay the extra £10 for HD, for something that I don't think is worth it.
There's no misinformation here, only a person's opinions.0 -
No extra £10 with Virgin here, HD is included in the package."...IT'S FRUITY!"0
