Picture on SD is great on my TV.
The difference from SD to HD is barely noticable.
No need for Specsavers, nothing wrong with my eyes.0 -

Are you cleaning it correctly, certain cleaners are too harsh?

But seriously you are not watching SD on your TV you are watching SD upscaled to HD.0 -

How do you come to that conclusion?0 -
If those saying HD isn't worth it or isn't any different etc., no offence but you must have a problem with your eyesight or have your setup all wrong.
There is no point in trying to debate on a persons opinion of what they think about a product.
The thing is though, those that have HD, have a HD TV, have a HD input, why did you go to all the expense in the first place if HD is so bad?
Personally I think HD is much better, it is like the change from analogue tv to digital.
Also, HD channels are free or included in the package on Virgin etc. Only Sky charges £10 pm.
If you ever play computer games, you would easily tell the difference between playing a PS3 game in HD rather than SD.0 -

Because you have a HD tv and Humax the hum will upscale the picture and send to TV, if using a different source than HDMI ie scart the TV is carrying out the upscaling of the low res SD picture to fill the screen, the humax does a great job of this and obviously your TV does too.
Try comparing a 720x480 SCREEN with a HD screen as at present you are not comparing a HD picture with an SD picture.
This is not a qualitative issue, HD is better than SD the only thing that can be up for discussion is whether people want to pay a premium for the better resolution picture source, and that's purely a personal thing.
Personally I cancelled the £10 sky premium, but I do love the free stuff, I also have quite a high end AV setup and the sound quality is vastly better on some/most HD streams.0 -

But I didn't say that I used the Humax for everyday viewing, I don't, I just use the built in Freeview of my TV.0 -

.
How would anyone know how good or bad HD was, if they didn't buy it and try it, I did and I now wish I had never bothered.
Yes my TV is set up properly, and there is nothing wrong with my eyes.
I do not sit with my nose pressed up to the screen, I sit a comfortable 15/18 foot away from my TV.
I don't play any silly games on it.0 -

Go into a shop and compare it?! For example most Sony shops have a setup with a split screen so you can directly compare.
Personally if you are going to pay £400 + for a half decent HD TV, I would like to know what it was like and what it could do before I bought it.Yes my TV is set up properly, and there is nothing wrong with my eyes.

I posted a more likely everyday viewing calculator earlier in this thread, if you are sitting about double the recommended distance, then no your set up isn't right.
10ft for a 42" screen is hardly having your nose pressed up to the screen.I don't play any silly games on it.
Games are just another form of home entertainment. No less silly than you watching Eastenders or Coronation Street. But I didn't say that I used the Humax for everyday viewing, I don't, I just use the built in Freeview of my TV.
No you just watch regular SD channels and complain that HD isn't any good?!
(Or for arguments sake, which I know will be coming, you have Freeview HD built in and only watch these limited number of channels on your TV;).)
My example of using the PS3 for playing games is just one example where HD is clearly better than SD. You could also watch Blu Ray.
Also, for things like football matches that are on both HD & SD channels, the difference between them is massive and very easy to compare.
Just watching a bit of the snooker last week, and even my gf (who is another person who can't spot the difference), did actually notice when I flicked between a HD and non HD channel of the same match.
I could just imagine that some people on this thread were also having debates about how tv was no better than radio, and not worth the extra cost..... :rotfl:0 -
It doesnt matter what source you are watching your screen res is 1920x1080 so it will upscale your SD input, whatever the source.
You are comparing an upscaled SD picture to HD not comparing SD to HD.
The up-scaling can be done to differing degrees of sucsess, yours is obviously well done.0 -
All very interesting, however many of you have missed the point. You are mostly talking about HD feeds from Freeview, Sky etc. These are broadcast as 1080i (interlaced, so half the resolution per field transmitted) or 720p (progressive scanning but only 720 lines). In both instances the tv is still effectively upscaling the picture. To get full high definition 1080p pictures, a blu ray player is required. Anyone comparing a full HD picture to an SD one and not seeing any difference is either sitting too far away from their tv, or their tv is incorrectly set up.
I have a Virgin V+ HD cable box and a Panasonic P46G20 plasma with a viewing distance of approximately 14 feet. Even at that distance the difference between transmitted SD and HD is stunning. If you seriously cannot tell the difference I certainly wouldn't insult you and suggest you need your eyesight testing, that really doesn't help anyone, however it's more likely the tv is incorrectly set up. When I first had my tv delivered there was so much artificial processing switched on (why DO they ship them like that?) that there was no discernable difference between SD and HD. Once I'd switched all of the 'picture enhancements' off well...couldn't believe the difference!
Please don't suggest there is NO difference between SD and HD because that's very misleading."...IT'S FRUITY!"0
