I think the only thing you could do is let it set and taste it?
My mum is the world's worst tablet/fudge maker - it usually tastes okay but is either burnt or unset

if you want to get into preserving foods (and i note that you're hoping to grow your own veg next year so trust me, faced with a glut, you'll want to get into it!) and for things like fudge making, you could do a lot worse than to keep an eye open for a pressure cooker.. Sometimes they are sold at carboots.. even if the pressure cooker part doesn't work, i would still nab it anyway cos they're nice big pans for cooking in (and should it bubble up it stands a better chance of being contained!). Cheaper also than a preserving pan (which are quite expensive). I've got 2 - mom's old one that doesn't come up to pressure any more (well it was bought for her in the 1970s so its done well!) and which i use as a preserving pan, and another one where the pressure part does work - i only ever use the pressure part for xmas puds, but i often use the pan part to cook things like soups or big casseroles - its great for batch cooking as well.

there were some 24" non stick cast casserole dishes in ALDI for about £24 I love mine its great0

Did you stir it while it was cooking? If not you should do next time as it wont burn if you do, well unless you cook it too long. Its really a fine line between burnt and fine tho. It just takes practice. Bet it tastes yum regardless.

I just made a batch of fudge as per the recipe here http://www.recipezaar.com/122457 - it hasnt set anywhere near a fudge type substance and is just squishy in the pan. This is for my sons teachers as gifts and i'm really annoyed its not worked out.. what did i do wrong? The recipe does not say to heat to any certain degree it just says heat gently. All the reviews say how easy it is too - hmmf!I LOVE MSE! :money:0

If it's like the stuff that you get in the middle of a twix between the biscuit and the chocolate then it hasn't been cooked enough.0

one of the reviews says they had to put it in the fridge overnight for it to set.:A MSE's turbo-charged CurlyWurlyGirly:A
