Good Lord, I am far too naughty and left field to be compared to a form captain I can assure you.... ;)

I know that I am like marmite - people love me or hate me - it is the way it has always been. For some strange reason people feel threatened by me sometimes (not physically) and tend to take a real dislike without getting to know me. I remember that my Dad used to trigger that sort of reaction from people. We are/were both straight talkers and people find that hard to take sometimes, happier talking behind someones back and being two faced. Not me.

I am so pleased that it has worked out well though.

I am getting so excited about getting my new fridge freezer this weekend. I am going to bid on the Comet Clearance site - they seem to sell at about 60 - 75% of the retail price. Who cares about a little dent or scratch when you are getting a big discount like that? Then I can cook, freeze and go all OS. :D

    What a gay day.......

Sorry Aesop, I had logged off by the time you asked for a link but I see sw jumped to my rescue. Doesn't it look good? I can't remember who I heard recommend it but it seems such a good idea.

My flat is the upstairs half of a house. The front door is at ground level and then it is 12 stairs up to the flat. I used a small local removal company to help me move and they were fantastic. Since then I have bought a washing machine and then a corner sofa (in two parts) from Argos and their delivery service has been dreadful both times and I won't buy from them again.
I bought the washimg maching online and there was nowhere to put any delivery notes on the site. When the guys turned up they all but refused to carry it up the stairs saying it should have been a 3 man job. I do wonder if they were angling for me paying them some more cash to do it.
When I bought the sofa I actually telephoned the Argos customer service dept and told them it was a first floor flat. I was told "No problem" but again when they turned up they were kicking off about the stairs. When you are a single female it can be quite intimidating and I was close to tears. In the end, again, they took it upstairs grumbling away. I just won't buy anything large from them again.
Has anyone else had problems with them?
Comet does charge £30 to deliver but it is still cheaper than buying locally, so I am going to go for it.
I have got a 3 legged dog at the moment. He was fine last night and has got up this morning feeling very sorry for himself and holding one leg up when he walks... :( He can have a quiet day today, I think he must have tweaked something on our walk yesterday. He was running around like a loony. I used to panic over every little thing but now I have learned to just wait and see. I think it just needs resting.
Not keen on these cold frosty mornings that seem to have come back. Warmer weather please..soon...
    Have a good day everyone

    Dear Diary....

The three legged dog is now more or less on 4 legs again after a day resting. He is not exactly back to normal but is much better - Hooray. Vets trip not needed which is handy as he tries to attack the lovely man if he so much as looks at him... :o It is a good thing I have known my vet for 15 years, from when I had dogs before, and he is pretty good natured about it. It took 3 of us to hold him (with a muzzle on) when he had to be sedated (the dog not the vet) and he only weighs 9kgs...

Well, I got my payslip today and the tax code was correct - it was my hours that were wrong and meant I was underpaid last week. Second time in the last few weeks and I am a bit cheesed off. I am one of those people who is quite organised, lists, budgets, spreadsheets (OK, a weeny bit anal) I always keep a tally of my hours and know what to expect, but not having a payslip, I couldn't check. I always get a sinking feeling when I have to say that my wages are wrong, why do we feel guilty? Anyway, when it gets sorted it will be a bit extra for me, I suppose. I have managed this week without it.

I finished my excellent book last night, by Douglas Kennedy. The only book I have left that I haven't read yet is the new one by Jane Green, who I normally like but it seems a bit frothy and lightweight. I used to love chick lit but I like a bit more substance now. I should really sell my books on when I have read them... more MSE behaviour, always a good thing.

Got spaghetti carbonara for tea tonight, one of my faves. I had a bacon sarnie last night and fried a bit of extra bacon to put in the carbonara. Yummy. Feet up and a bit of tele and before you know it back to work tomorrow :( I am really toying with buying a laptop this year instead of a holiday and then I can post on here as well as watch the TV. Multi tasking - marvellous! My old computer is taking longer and longer to boot up and I know it hasn't got a great deal of capacity so it may be time to put it out to grass. I am thinking about doing a summer of boot sales so I could make that a target for the profits.

    That's enough from me.

    Speak soon

Hello SA, Angel is thinking of carbooting too. Good idea. If you need any advice do ask 3dogs she is great and knows lots about them.

Glad doggy is better. And sorry about wage packet and hopefully the hours will be sorted without any mistakes now the boss is back and realises how competent you are.

You sound really focussed. Good on you. I do hope you are able to get a laptop, I only have a sitting at the desk 'puter, Aesop knows all about competitions and you can join MSE threads devoted to these and maybe win one thereby killing two birdies with one stone.

    Thanks sw,

A few years ago I did car boots religously for a whole season April thru to November and made about £1500. Amazing. We went on holiday with it. I started off selling tat from the house but then I found a supplier of really nice wooden craft stuff and it used to sell really well. I just need to get enthusiastic about it.
I like competitions and I am going to do a few more... good idea.
It is like a whole new world to me, talk about looking after the pennies and all that. I used to think nothing of spending fortunes on all sorts of rubbish... now I have turned into a tightwad.
I must admit I do quite like my desktop computer, but it is ancient now. It is set up on a lovely big pine corner desk, that I bought about 5 years ago, and is in my spare bedroom that I have turned into a sort of den. It is so cosy, got a stereo, armchair, dog bed (!) but no TV.
Perhaps I will have a laptop and my desktop - my own little network.

Don't you think that when you waste money or overspend it is a sign of unhappiness within? I certainly do and now that I have been working on my "inner self" for a while with my psychologist I am actually thinking about everything that I do and spend.
I have seen people that were debt ridden who either became BR or got out of debt just to go straight back into the red again. I think you have to be of a certain frame of mind to be able to deal with living on a budget successfully but it is so gratifying when you manage it. Like you say, the buzz it gives you to have so many NSD's is worth so much. When my boss gave me £20 extra last week, it meant the world to me and has paid for my food this week rather than going to the off licence for a bottle of good wine or JD :o
Blimey, that was a bit heavy..... :rotfl:
