Morning all, well, went dress shopping yesterday at Leicester Wedding Dress Outlet. They had some beautiful dresses, mainly in 10's and 12's but there were some 14 and 16 too.

I tried 3 on, cant remember the first 2 designer names etc, but the third one was a Turdy Lee 59107 (http://www.glamourousgowns.co.uk/shopdata/show.php?dress=2867)

It was on sale at £400. But because I am still a bit overweight, it didnt quite sit right. It is a beautiful dress and it did look lovely, but I just couldnt bring myself to buy it. I dont think its 'THE ONE'.

I think I am going to wait until the wedding show at the NEC and see if I can get something there.

I didnt realise trying wedding dresses on could be so stressful!
That's very pretty, you will know when u see the dress if its the one u have as u will fall in love with it and it will be perfect when you try it on

Just popping in to say hi! August 7th 2012 for me. I will take some time tomorrow to read this thread in detail. Although on first read of the first and last page I am slightly panicking. Cars booked, bridesmaid dresses bought! Eeek! lol!

well my underskirt arrived today its fantastic so happy thats another tick off the list, going to pick my veil up this afternoon so just my tiara to get now and thats my outfit complete, only got a yr to wait lol hmmm do u think im a bit to organised he he
  • I have only just looked at the thread briefly. I have so many questions i just dont know where to start! I am also a bit dubious about asking as i have a tiny tiny budget of only £2,500 for my wedding. I have the church booked and am looking into local village halls for my venue as i have friends who have offered to do my disco for free :) and am awaiting a quote on a buffet from another friend. I am not having a lavish do at all however i will be having around 100 guests. I have found 'the one' on a website but i am so unsure about ordering my dress from an online store. I obviously want to lose weight before my day. Therefore i am unsure about what to do about the dress. I love it but don't know if it will be available by the time i am ready to buy it. Anyone got any ideas on buying online and the dangers etc? Also any tips on cars would be good as that it where i am thinking i may have to cut back on and use my own car and ask a family member to drive it for me. I would have loved the horse drawn carriage but they start at £800 which is way above what i can afford! I am making my own invites and have all the stuff i need for that. But i do also need to make the order of service too....again ideas would be appreciated! I am going to have artifical flowers for everyone except myself and the groom as those will be placed at the grave of my mother in law afterwards :) Could you also explain more about underskirts too? It's something i had not even contemplated. I can see this thread being my new haven for the next 12 months. This time next year i will be married woohooo! :)

Hi xxlilgabxx, welcome to our thread.

Firstly, there are many, many brides-to-be on here with a budget similar or smaller than yours. You've definitely come to the right place to make the most of your money, so please do ask away :)

Fab news on your friends offering to do your disco for free :D

As for cars, I'm not having fancy cars either. I don't have a long journey to get to our church, and the cost of hiring a fancy car is just crazy  I will probably get my Dad to drive me in his car. I'm planning to just buy a cheap car ribbon to decorate it (Tesco's had some in the sale for 75p so I might grab one now!)

Which website have you seen your dress on my dear? There are loads of ways to save money on dresses. Some shops will sell sample dresses (the ones that have been tried on in the shop) for a massive discount. This has the bonus of being able to try on the dress first :) Also, many people sell their wedding dresses after their wedding, so if you don't mind a second hand dress, then ebay and preloved are great sources of these. I would recommend you go dress shopping in a n actual shop first, and just try on a range of dresses to see how you like them on. Soooo many people say they ending up falling in love with a dress they wouldn't even have picked to try on, and it can be hard to visualise how well something suits your colouring and body shape.
This will give you a better idea about the style and size of dress you need. How much weight are you hoping to lose? Dresses can be taken in by a couple of sizes usually, any more than that and you can lose detail. However the downside is that alterations can be expensive.
There are many people on here who have made their own foam or silk flower arrangements/ buttonholes/ bouquets. I think a lot of people recommend a specific ebay seller- if you can't find the thread, give me a shout and I'll have a look for you :)

You've got plenty of time to make your budget work for you, and this is a really friendly forum with lots of people also working on a tight budget. :)

    Hi and welcome xxlilgabxx
My budget is £3500 but were having the big wedding as in wedding breakfast included and we have to pay for our dj to but only £200
im having a classic car £246 for 3 hrs where are u loacated? they do discounts for week weddings which mine is a friday.
underskirts,i have just purchased a jupon (very well known make) from ebay for £36 its a one hoop with 5 nets (Layers) so makes the dress bigger EG princess type lol
go for a few fittings like Tiara said as u need to get an idea of what suits u,i popped into 3 different shops the first two could not help me,there dresses started at £1000 way out of my buget of £300 so i went to another one local to me,she said there dresses started at £600 but they had 2 huge rails of sale stuff ex samples so i looked through and found THE dress so went back later that day for a fitting it was perfect and i fell in love with it.it had been reduced from £600 to £300 it was a size 10 and she said usually u go 1 size bigger than u are,she couldnt get the zip all the say up cos of my bust (big busted) so she said she would knock me £50 off making the dress £250 so i could have a lace up back put it,perfect as thats what i wanted all along.my mums friend is a seamstress so will do it for next to nothing anyway.

this shop where i got mine are having a huge sale for 2 days in sept they will be getting dresses in from other shops aswell, there selling off underskirts, veils, tiaras and bridesmaid dresses if your local to me then worth a look

i to am doing my own invites, table centre pieces, flowers, sweet buffet, wishing well and bridesmaid head wear etc my flowers will all be artificial
Im not doing order of service just dont see much point as there is 37 of us for the wedding breakfast so only expecting that many at the church altho on the evening invites it will say there there welcome to come the church
    sorry im rattling now

do u have anything around the house u can sell thats not needed? we have had a massive clearout of kids toys/clothes and stuff we dont need i have been able to buy my shoes and underskirt with the profit and still have some left over waiting to be used on other bits

Well we met with our new wedding planner yesterday - not sure she is old enough to have left school, but hey ho!!

Went through everything, fortunately, she had found some notes that the last WP had made along with copies of some old emails.

We have now had all the t's & c's which we need to read and a contract. As soon as we send it back over everything is green for go!

We also had a nice surprise in the shape of cheaper menus and better options for the hog roast in the evening! All in all, it was quite fortunate!! I can now sleep better at night!!

Thanks to everyone for your support!
    xx

    I DONT BELIEVE IT!!!

Just had a phone call from the new wedding planner - she has left!! Personal reasons were cited as to why, but now I dont know where I am or what I'm doing again. All is still booked - which is more than it was last time this happened!! - but I'm just so nervous now about having the wedding there.

I asked the planner whether she would have her wedding there and she said she would, but how can we have any faith in the place!!

I dont know what to do, should we move the wedding somewhere else, IF we can get a date, or do we stay and hope for the best!!
Married the absolute love of my life on Sunday May 6th and I couldnt be happier!!!
