August 2012 Brides and Grooms

HI
Just a point about wedding rings... you will see from my post that we have recently got quotes for these. The jeweller said to us that we should factor in the cost of gold and that it is rising. He said that it might go down, but it was very unlikely. So it might be worth costing those out now.0 -
Oh I am also wondering about Save the dates. I really want to send some and am thinking that as the 25th August is a bank holiday I want to give people as much notic as possible.
I know I have several wedding twins out there - so what have people done?

I will be sending my invites out around march/april time.do u send save the dates before or after or with?
also can anyone answer my post about church's on the previous page?0 -
Are save the dates really nessessary though? just thinking as usually when i get invites i straight away write the date and time on my calendar im just wondering if there really worth it??0

So do you think if I send out the ‘Save the date’ bit say… early September it would be too soon?
Only reason I say this early is that, most of my side of the family is a 4 hour commute so will obviously have to book hotels etc, also family travelling from Europe so will need to book flights etc (we have told them about the wedding and are just waiting for confirmation of everything!)
What do you think?0 -
Invites are usually sent around 3 months before the wedding.
The idea of save the dates is simply to alert people in advance to keep the date free. They are often sent out over a year in advance, and only contain the date rather than detailed info about times/locations etc.
If you don't see a need for save the dates then don't have them
I will be having them as August is peak holiday time and I would like people to be able to make an informed decision about when to book their hols, knowing when our wedding is.
I'm thinking of sending mine out with xmas cards on 1st Dec, purely to save pennies on stamps!
Jalapee- September sounds great to me, the more notice the betterAre save the dates really nessessary though? just thinking as usually when i get invites i straight away write the date and time on my calendar im just wondering if there really worth it??0 -
Say you're married for 40 years, your ring with diamonds would cost you £13.50 per year, or 3.7p per day.
Don't get yourself into debt over it, but you've got to wear it every day forever- you don't want to regret your choice in the years to comeHey
What a coincedence OH has just text with the quotes (though I did have to nag him earlier to ring - think he is wanting to keep me sweet at the mo as I am whinging about my cold :rotfl:) adn feeling rather sorry for myself over the last few days. Think he is worried I might start crying:rotfl:
I now have quotes:
His: £200 white gold, £236 (not sure what metal that is) or £800 for platinum.
Mine: (white gold to match the engagement ring) £340 without diamonds or £540 with.
I guess they are reasonable quotes as they would be handmade and mine would need to be shaped around my engagement ring. But its a lot of the budget, but they will be rings we will wear every day.
Now, the decision is do we go for it or not?????0 -

The people we absolutely have to have there (close family and friends) already know the date.
I will be doing save the dates and enclosing them with xmas cards to save postage. Not finalised our guest list yet so it will give us time to figure that out!
I think it's fine to send them out as soon as you've sorted your guest list and are sure about who to send them to- would be a bit embarrassing to have sent some a save the date to someone, and then have to retract it if you've changed your mind and can't afford a space for them!Oh I am also wondering about Save the dates.
