Two feeds a day is too little for such a young pup IMHO. Max was on 4 at that age then 3 at 12 weeks and only now am i considering making it 2 per day (23 weeks old today).
Not sure about the food type either but that's another topic all together. (I am feeding Raw for what it's worth but it's deffo not for everyone) But I have read a lot about food types and TBH some of these "completes" are rubbish and down right harmful to your pup. I would at least have a read up on what is considered a good quality feed such as James Wellbeloved or Royal Kanine to name just 2 of the better "quality" kibbles. there are also cheaper alternatives which are good quality such as CSJ. There are many options out there but like I said it's a whole topic on it's own.

You would also get better help joining some of the many doggy forums that are out there - Well I only really know about the german Shepherd forums but they are an absolute goldmine of help and information.

about 7 hours, her last feed is about 6pm, 2 or 3 poo's in the evening then bed about 10 ish when we go up, not getting up in the night as she's downstairs and we're upstairs, should we set an alarm few times to get up for her? she whines 10 mins after we go up, im guessing because she misses us?
When mine were pups for the first few weeks I would set the alarm for about 4 am ,not speak to the dog and put them in the garden until they performed .
You have to accept that puppies need a lot of time and attention and are very hard work in the first months .
My latest dog never messed in the house once ,I would watch for the slightest sign of wanting to mess and straight into the garden ,I never left her unattended in the house even to go to the bathroom ,I would put her into her crate even if it was only 5 mins ,that way they learn that the place to go is outside .
Although they are hard work they are very rewarding ,so enjoy your dog and dont feel you cant ask for help ,owning a dog is a steap learning curve and although I have been a dog owner for many years I learn something new every week .

thanks ali, yes puppy complete is dry but we sprinkle a little water over it to soften it a bit, at present half a cup twice a day, so maybe 1/3 of a cup 4 time a day? last feed about 10pm sound right?

    Thanks again
  • She could also be allergic to one of the ingredients in your dog food?

the KC breeder suggested 2 feeds, midday then 6 or 7pm as she's such a small pup, about half a cup of pedigree puppy complete, should i maybe split this into 3, more spaced out feeds? The hunger thing waking her make sense too :)

The poo and pee greeting is already becoming part of our morning routine lol

    WHAT????!!!!!

Sorry that just goes to prove that KC reg means diddly squat.

She should be on four meals a day first thing in morning, no more than an hour before bed and two inbetween.

Shocked to see you were advised to give only 2 feeds a day by the breeder:eek:. Definately 4 at this age, spread out as evenly as you can manage, she's only titchy and has a small belly :)

Pups learn in the nest (might be instinctive? Dunno) that they should leave their sleeping area to 'eliminate', it's slightly concerning that yours hasn't - a pup will get distressed (and noisy) if it wakes up needing to 'go' but can't get away from it's bed - if you can't hear her, it's well worth setting your alarm for a 'small hours' toilet trip (or two, if she needs it). If the crate is very large, it's possible that she can get far enough away from where she sleeps to be comfortable with going in there and not having to make a noise about it - this is OK if you can define a 'bed area' and a 'toilet area', or temporarily partition the space so her sleeping area is smaller. I won't repeat the good advice you've already been given; however, if she has not had the best of starts with the breeder and has not been accustomed to keeping her sleeping area clean, the advice may not work :)

PS Cracking pic DavidF - look at those ears!!!!! :D

I would soak it completely with hot water and leave it to cool and for the kibble pieces to expand. There is plenty of time to be feeding her dry food as she gets older. It should be like mush at this age.

Yes I agree with everyone - she should definitely be on at least 3 preferably 4 meals a day, if you imagine when they are that young they are just babies and needs several small meals and then you gradually cut it down.

Don't want to overwhelm you with info but like people have already said pedigree is a rubbish dog food and a triumph of marketing!! ;) especially for a growing pup. If I was you I would maybe keep her on it for a couple of weeks to avoid too much change and look into a better alternative and then gradually change her onto that over say 10 days.

Good quality dried dog food isn't expensive as you feed less of it as it's not full of rubbish! As an example my 2yr old 9kg dog is on Burns which most people agree is a excellent quality food and it costs me under £2 a week.

Good luck and have fun they grow sooooo quickly!!

ps. If you don't already know ;) Sarabe is an experienced dog trainer in "real life!" and her advice is usually spot on! :)

    2 meals a day

So last meal is at 6-7pm and then not again until midday, the poor little devil must be starving!

This would not be helping her housetraining as I very much doubt her stomach is able to digest the quantity of food you would have to give her in 2 meals - it will be passing through quicker than it should.

I'd be giving her 4 or 5 small meals a day at 9 weeks, my adult dogs have 2 meals a day.
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree! :D
