At that age I would be giving her the last meal at 10pm before you go to bed so she has something in her tum to last her through the night.
Personally I spend the first 2 weeks sleeping on the sofa so I can get up and out into the garden with the dog or if you don't have a garden I would have her crate in your room so you hear when she gets up and can get her onto the paper or puppy pads.
If you have her with you, you can gradually move her downstairs e.g. initially to the hall outside your room, then the bottom of the stairs and finally to the kitchen. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

How do we get her out in time as her crate is
in the kitchen, we sleep upstairs in our bedroom, we didnt really want her in the bedroom in case she became used to it and then refused to sleep elsewhere... any ideas great recieved
If you let her sleep in your bedroom in her crate you will hear her when she wakes up and needs to pee.
She will be less distressed about being left as you can get her used to it slowly.
More importantly she is learning to sleep in her crate instead of crying in her crate or toileting in her crate which means that wherever you put her crate eventually she will be happy.A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.0 -
At 9 weeks old she needs a meal later than 6pm for a little while longer otherwise she will be extremely hungry by the next morning and her hunger will wake her and distress her.
If you don't want to get up in the night and take her out to the toilet that is your choice. She's your dog. You will soon get used to pee and poo greeting you every morning.
the KC breeder suggested 2 feeds, midday then 6 or 7pm as she's such a small pup, about half a cup of pedigree puppy complete, should i maybe split this into 3, more spaced out feeds? The hunger thing waking her make sense too
The poo and pee greeting is already becoming part of our morning routine lol0 -

Do her a favour and drop her at the local rescue place where someone who knows how hard it is to bring a puppy up but will do it properly.
She's hungry, she's lonely and she's lying in her own crap - and you wonder if 'she misses you'?
Yo really do live up to your username dont you. Please do me a favour, and the helpful posters in my threads and dont come in anymore, last thing I need is you reporting me to Animal Rights, ALF or MI5 because I'm asking for help with our first puppy. I dont like defending myself, and its only against a militant, select few who are ripping me apart after day 3 of being a puppy owner
sorry to those who are helpful and offering advice0 -
9 weeks old is still way young imho. If you can get the crate up to the bedroom then do that. If not then (Just telling you what we did with our German shep pup) you could ditch the crate at night for the next month or so until puppy is used to being in his/her new home. Just get a nice comfy puppy bed that you can chuck in your bedroom and stick some mats down so that if puppy gets up at night without you realising then it should go on the mats. If you hear puppy getting up during the night then you get up and take it out to garden to do what it needs.
I think we were a tad "lucky" in that our pup basically loved peeing and pooing outside. And he would sniff at door to get out to do his business. Even now at 5 months he sniffs at door to get out and the very odd occasion we miss the sniff at the door he barks like a mad dog to reinforce the fact that it is indeed "time" lol.
Now at 5 months our pup is in his crate downstairs all night ie from 11 at night until 6.30 in the morning. He is fine with this and is like straight out into the garden at 6.30am for his early morning wee. Then its back to bed for an hour or so and its walkies time :}
Sorry I seem to be rambling on at bit here lol. Anyway to recap what we did was
1. Upstairs with us from 9 week until 13-14 weeks old (introduced to crate during day to show him that it was his and that's where a few of his favourite toys and some delicious treats "lived". No shut door at all for 1st few weeks as we wanted pup to "love" this place.
2. After pup had been with us for 5 weeks or so we started to encourage him into crate at night for bed time - But I slept downstairs for the 1st few nights as well so he could see me and he felt comfortable with this.
3. After stage 2 we then went from me sleeping downstairs to me staying with him downstairs for say 1 hour then leaving him to sleep on his own (This worked pretty well)
4. We are now at the stage where he even puts himself to bed in his crate when he is tired. We can leave him all night without any real fuss at all.
Now we have him into his own little routine he even gets to come upstairs every now and then to sleep at the bottom of our bed (But I know this is not something that everyone would want to do, so that is just an "each to their own" type of thing.)
We are a just over 5 months old now and our GS pup is a "Big Boy" lol but loves to please us and is everything we ever wanted in a dog.
Say hi to Max - (About 4 months old in pic)

i at the most left mine for 4 hours that was how long he could cope with.
Give up on your sleep for a bit, your pup is way young to cope with 7 hours,
I have found this for you to have a good read and get some hints and tips

Good idea sarabe, thanks again, and possibly she wont whine if she can hear us or knows we're in the same room as her..0 -
I know I've mentioned it before, but I would consider changing her food BritishBoy. My dog loves her James Wellbeloved. I switched her on day one of being with us as she was on tinned puppy food. I put a little bit of hot water in the dry food at the beginning and let it moisten while cooling... before I gave it to her. She's now 15 weeks and the vet said I don't need to wet the food anymore if she is happy eating it dry, which she is.
She has plenty of water. A bowl in her crate and another by the back door, which was the cats, but the puppy has been drinking it too! Vet said she is in great health and growing well. I think the difference with a really good quality food is literally, less waste. As in less poop because the food doesn't contain fillers which the puppy doesn't need. The only downside is the price, but to be honest a bag lasts a couple of weeks, so it really isn't costing too much in my opinion.
Another thing to watch is the doggie treats, there is a lot of rubbish out there. The only treats my puppy has are the duck or chicken fillets which come in a dark green and clear packet from pets at home. No rubbish added to them, just pure meat. I've been cutting them up and using them for training. At night, my puppy has the radio on and a little heated wheat pack in her bed to cuddle up to. She also loves the baby muslin cloths, which I wrap around the heat pack to avoid her from getting too hot. Hope this helps you and good luck with your puppy.0 -
Thanks mupette, will take a read after lunch and make lots of notes, everyone (bar an angry, militant few) here seems very helpful and knowledgable0

She should be on 4 meals a day just now. In the same way as her bladder and bowels can't hold pee and poo in, her stomach can't cope with the amount of food she needs over 2 meals.
Please spread the amount of food you give her over 4 meals - breakfast, lunch, tea and supper.
Is pedigree complete a wet or dry food? If it is dry you should be soaking it for her while she is so little. If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
