Diary of a Wedding Dress Hunt by MrsDrink.

I just could not sleep last night. Was so excited and nervous all at the same time. What if the things you read about snooty assistants are true. What if nothing looks right. What if... what if... what if.. So I gave up on sleep at 6am, and got up. I spent the morning on ebay buying far too much stuff that really could have been bought closer to the wedding. EVENTUALLY 8am arrives and it's time to get ready. I shower, shave, preen and pamper myself. Get on my spanx and strapless bra. Do my hair nice, and put on my make up (I'd done my nails and eyebrows the night before). I left off the blusher cause I naturally blush the moment I have even an ounce of adrenaline inside me. At dead on 9am I leave the house feeling very smug that I'd made it on time. Anyone who knows me will tell you how much of a miracle that is!

I get to Scunny at around 10am. I would have got there sooner had my satnav not tried to take me the wrong way down a one way street, and had I not driven past the road where the carpark was. So I get to the carpark, totally oblivious to the fact my mum is already there, get my ticket and then see her getting out of her car. :)

We walk from our cars to Shop number 1: Sue Anable's The Bridal Design Studio and am greeted by the lovely assistant Inde. She was the lady who had answered all my numerous emails about various wedding dresses in particular the Donna Lee Design's Alice dress.

Which I try on first. It was a lovely dress but it just didn't make me want to skip around the room like a little girl. So together with another assistant Inde looked at all their dresses for ones that could be made into a tea-length dress for me. They picked out another three for me to try on. The first of these was a really lovely that ticked a lot of boxes. I tried on the second one of these but it wasn't anywhere near as nice as the other so I quickly dismissed the final one. Because we'd arrived early we actually left there around 11am.

The place I'd found for us to eat (The Clamart) didn't start serving food till 11:30, but we wandered over that way anyway. They opened at 11 for drinks so we went in, grabbed a drink, sat down and chit chatted away. Ordered lunch (mmm perhaps chips, garlic bread and lasagna is not the best food to have whilst trying wedding dresses on). We stayed gassing until 12:45, when we headed off to the second bridal shop.

Here the assistant was really helpful, but I don't know what it was, they just didn't seem to care as much. It's really hard to describe. Cause here she actually bought out a lot more dresses for me to try on (given my brief that it must be able to be shortened into a tea length dress). And she was really lovely at providing her views (like when I was umming and ahhing). The shop just didn't feel as nice, there was no natural light like the other shop, and the rails were almost crammed full. I don't want to 'name and shame' because I think for so many other brides they would have been perfect but they just didn't suit me. I didn't feel special, I just felt like another customer. I think that sums it up fairly well.

Anyway in the end it came down to the dress that I really liked from the first shop, and a much cheaper (£250 in the sale) sweetheart dress in the second shop.

I was umming and ahhing, and my fabulous mum said if the only thing that was stopping me from having the other dress was the price she would pay the difference... cue massive grin on my face. (The other dress was £825 including all alterations).

Soooo because the sweetheart dress was in the sale the store agreed to hold it for me till the end of the week. So after we left them we went back to The Bridal Design Studio. And it just felt wonderful stepping back in there. It just felt luxurious and right. I said to the 'new' assistant that I'd been in in the morning and had tried a dress on and wondered if I could just pop it back on again. We walk upstairs, as we're walking upstairs Inde sees me, and follows, chatting to me. (Again making me feel special - oh forgot to say earlier when I was first there she remembered the emails I'd sent her, she knew which dress I wanted to try on without me reminding her. Where as the second shop didn't remember me, and even spoke about this woman emailing her about short tea length dresses and how there just isn't many about - it didn't dawn on her that that woman was infact me.)....

Anyway we go back upstairs mum in tow, and try on the dress again..... my dress. :D Yep you read that right (and I guess you already worked it out given I haven't said it's designer/make shared a photo!). Trying it on again after trying other, well let's be frank, inferior dresses on (lol in my eyes clearly), I knew it was the one. (Strange how it took that second wearing to feel it). I felt wonderful in it. It hugged me in the right places, and will look absolutely beautiful when they chop the bottom off and make it into a tea length dress.

Sooooo mum and I placed an order there and then. Paid half the deposit. And I walked out of there with a massive grin on my face. I absolutely cannot wait to show MrD... however seeing how beautiful it is, and how special I felt I don't want to show him any photos cause they so do not do it justice. I will tell him it's a really pale ivory (so I can use my white gerberas in my bouquet and in his button hole) short, and strapless. The rest he is going to have to wait to see. Soooooo excited. :D The only 'problem' is my shoes - they just don't go - the silver is not pale enough (so I'm back on a shoe hunt - damn shame pmsl).

So :) That is my Dress Shopping Diary. If anyone would like to see what dress I've got bung me a PM and I'll show you :).
    Very happy indeed!

Sounds like it went well then, I'll see a pic if you don't mind PMing me one! (need some inspiration to get me feeling weddingy :/) Are the shop going to chop the extra length off or do you have to find a seamstress to do it?

Shame about the shoes, you will have to redo all your photos again too lol :D I guess you won't mind that though as the dress is perfect, and plus you get to do more shoe shopping :T

    xx

Well it's a hardship you will have to endure lol! It is lovely though not surprised you can't wait! At least it is still at the shop and not at home - it would probably ruined by the wedding from trying it on and off :p
Glad you had a good experience though and got it all sorted in one day - would have been horrible to go home empty handed and have to do it all again!

Emma will be all excited right about now so jealous of her haha I wanna go see TT again!

I have been such a slob today and now feel really bad for wasting a day. I've basically done housework (good) but sat playing computer games and eating chocolate in between (v. bad) :o I seem to have really lost my mojo lately, I know I keep saying that but I don't know how to pull myself back. I feel awful when I look in the mirror but I can't seem make myself do anything about it! :o

My biggest problem is now I've been dress shopping not letting everything go to put and undoing the hard work I had done in the last 10-12 weeks or so. I still have a wet suit to buy towards the end of the summer hols!!!

I am glad that we got it sorted today - would have been horrid if we hadn't cause I wouldn't want to do it without my mum which'd have meant waiting even longer.

Welcome sweetilemon :) Yaaaaaaaaaay someone else who's getting married before me!! I'd have hated to have been the first of us lot.

Oooo you been dress shopping too? Lol I don't think my little brain could have coped with trying on any more dresses. By the end of the ones I tried on in the second shop my little brain was beginning to forget what the other dress looked and felt like. So glad I went back to try it on!!
