Samsung Europa - O2 issues

  • Update - the firmware upgrade that we did last night appears to have not worked as hubby received another text at 2.30am this morning.

Not sure whether or not to wait for the froyo update that is apparently due shortly?

  • bought this phone from cpw in middlesbrough.. took it back with same issues as described.. pointed out it was effecting lots of people but they flately refused a refund and replaced phone with same model. neadless to say the new model is doing exactly the same.. where do i go from here?
  • As I said above I had the same issue when I took the phone back to the store in the Metro Centre. You could mention that the guys in the Newcastle store are fully aware of the problem and ask if they could contact them for confirmation.

Rumour has it Samsung will be shipping out a new patch at the end of the month.
it MAY just be a fix for the sms problem or an update to 2.2 (which would also be a fix for the SMS problem!)

Saying that people who have updated to a custom 2.2 ROM have not had the issue...

  • I'm glad im not the only one who has a buggy Europa. It's been going on since 1st November 2010! Which means my 28 day return is up.

Like everyone I have the SMS bug. My local cpw has replaced the sim card and today has reflashed the firmware on it. This bug so far seems to have gone sp far but will let you know if it starts again. However...

Another bug which people may not have recognised yet is the alarm clock. Basically the alarm is set but doesn't go off until you physically pick up the phone and wake it. First few times I thought it was just me but it's definitely a bug. I believe the problem lies between AM/PM and 24 hours clock. Has anyone else seen this?

    Thanks in advance!

I've got the same problems with texts (i'm on O2) and have had the phone a few weeks from CPW.

Went to my local CPW store and they refused to consider anything. They said software isn't warranted unless i'd bought the insurance (which I didn't) and they can't help. I asked them to upgrade the Android to 2.2 and was told there will be a £14.99 charge. Or to take it to a store 30 miles away to look at.

Doesn't the software come with the phone and therefore should be warranted? My next step will be to ask for a full refund within 28 days under my statutory rights.

You have no legal right to a refund unfortunately.

The software is part and parcel with the warranty, what isn't covered is guaranteed updates etc, CPW are full of poop to avoid repairs, send it off from an O2 store for a firmware update, they can't tell where it's from anyway :)

I didn't know that. The phone is 'not fit for purpose' if the software does not work properly, as it comes like that from the retailer. I haven't updated anything.

I didn't buy it from O2 so why would they update it for me? I bought it from CPW with an Orange SIM .... but I use my own O2 SIM in it.

When you send a phone away for repair from an O2 store, they enter the IMEI number to check for warranty status. This only works if it has been bought from an O2 store or the O2 website.

If it is bought from CPW it will not return any results and they will ask you for a proof of purchase. If the staff member in store does not take this from you it will result in the repair agent sending through a quotation (bill) for the repair unless a receipt is provided.

If you take along your receipt to an O2 store they will not having quibbles about sending it off for repair. There is no shame in admitting it was not bought from them.
