    .............and the moral to this sad tale as has been said many times, don't buy anything from PC World, Currys etc. They are clueless, brainless, and very expensive for so called repairs!
  • I found this thread very useful with dealing with Currys (the Tech Guys). I hope my story will also help a few more people;

    Short Version: Bought laptop from Currys Website on 2nd November for xmas present to wife. Opened on 25th December and saw that the keyboard wasn't sitting correctly and when used it missed random keystrokes. Contacted them via online form on 27th December. I never heard anything back.
    On 6th Jan, I took the laptop into my local Tech Guys who confirmed the fault but said they could not fix it and it would have to be sent away. It was collected on the 12th and promised back to me by the 20th Jan. It did not arrive (it got lost apparently) and after making many phone calls, the laptop was fainlly found and delivered on the 26th - UNREPAIRED due to no fault being found!
    8th Feb, after more phone calls made by me, it was collected again and promised back to me on 15th Feb. It got lost again, so i made A LOT of phone calls and was promised various things by various people from various departments. I emailed the CEO a couple of times. Anyway, the day before they were going to issue a refund, they found the laptop! It eventually got back to me on 8th March (1 month later) - UNREPAIRED again!

    After many more phone calls/emails, the Tech Guys agreed that if I took it back to the store and the Tech Guys confirmed thefault again, then they would issue a refund. It took the store 10mins to confirm the fault, so I was promised a refund within 2 weeks. It took them 4 weeks, but i eventually got the refund.

    No-one ever called me back (despite many promises).

    I am now in the process of claiming compensation for my Time, Expenses and Inconvenience totalling over £600. They have offered me £100 so far, so I have said that if we can't agree on £326, then I will take them to the Small Claims Court.

    Tips - Log everything. Time your telephone calls. Ask for your case to be transferred to the Medics Team ASAP as you will get a direct point of contact via email or telephone. Be polite but ascertive. Use your rights as covered by the Sales and Goods Act. Use Consumer Direct for advice.

    Useful email address's - john.browett@dixons.co.uk (CEO). sebastian.james@dsgiplc.com (found on one of my email threads with them), scccustomersolutionsteam@dsgiplc.com (found on one of my email threads with them).
