And Dixons :) I think they are part of their group.

I would hope so, it does stand for Dixons Stores Group International after all....

TBH i don't mind buying from them. In fact i repeat buy. Yes there are issues, but there are with any store. At least they have a physical presence around town. And there service agreements serve their purpose if you use them correctly.

6 years ago i spent £880 on a laptop, and through various faults etc, I've now had another two laptops to replace it. After adding on what i have spent on the plans (minus the refunds) I've spend about £1000 in total, yet I've had my £880 laptop (which was reduced heavily anyways because of being display), my £1000 vaio, and my £1250 vaio.

It's because of their incompetence that they then have to give me a shiny new laptop. For that reason o wouldn't shop anywhere else.....

... and if you're successful in getting a cash payment rather than a voucher, and somebody says hey, why don't you get away from the Dixon Group and buy from Pixmania instead. . .

    Run. ;)

    Good luck!

Pixmania are owned by Dixons Group as well.

You will not get a credit voucher of £220.00 you will get a voucher for a like for like laptop.

Ie: lets say you paid £220.00 in 2009 , now in 2011 the same spec laptop would probably cost £349.00 that will be a rough figure and therefor voucher amount will not be the same as original purchase.

Really? With the way computer components work i'd expect an identical spec laptop bought in 2009 to cost the same or less by 2011.

Oh yes, but they do it spec for spec, aka you purchased a top of the range Toshiba Quasmio for £1300 a few years ago, it breaks and the only laptop available which has to be ordered in is a Big !!! HP 21" as its the only one with a TV tuner and thats £1600, you get the cash for £1600 (well credit)

I thought I would update on recent news.

Had a message left my Tech Guys last week to say my laptop had been repaired and would be delivered on 27 January. Thought it was a mistake as 1.They told me the laptop was lost and
    2. Fifteen days to deliver a repaired laptop seemed crazy.

However, the lady dealing with my complaint, phoned me last Friday to tell me the laptop had been found and would be delivered on Tuesday (yesterday).

In the mean time my brother gave me my new laptop which he had got me for xmas and my birthday (joint present) as he knew I had so many problems with the laptop and tech guys.

I checked my laptop yesterday after it had been delivered and when I plugged in my broadband dongle, in the left usb port, it switched off the laptop. Spoke to tech guys and they made me go through a repair list and then told me my laptop would need to be picked up again as it looked like a hardware problem. But the report that was filled in and dated 31.12.2010 states all ports and sockets had been checked and were in working order.

Im not at home tomorrow and I have emailed head office as I have spent a fortune making calls to them. I have gone well over my limit as I have a contract phone.

    I have had enough now.

Would you really trust them with it after your experience with them? If you were local I would take a look at it for you;)

Aww thank you, that is very kind of you. :)

Well, I am going to try and back up what ever I haven't backed up, if I can and no I do not trust them one bit, however my brother did get me a new laptop so once I have everything backed up, it won't bother me as much.

What angers me is the way they operate and get things mixed up and then they try to cover their backs by claiming its a communincation problem.

And my worse nightmare is, my brother took out insurance with the new laptop he got me and guess what, its with tech guys. I cried when I saw the letter, welcoming me to their great service with piece of mind. I don't want their insurance, any advice if I can take insurance out with another company?
  • brought my sons netbook from currys in 2008 for 259 pound, with the 3.99 a month cover with techguys, anyway the first time i used the insurance cover was in November 28th 2010,my son had somehow damaged the screen so phoned techguys who booked it in for repair and collection from currys the following day, this is were the problems started after 30 days did not hear a thing so i phoned them and they said they were waiting for parts,so i spoke to my son to see what he wanted to do as i was entitled to have it replaced if its not repaired within 28 days,he wanted to wait a bit longer as all is info was stored on it,another 3 weeks past and another phone call and they were still waiting for parts so not being very happy i went to the instore techguys at currys to complain about the time and i wanted it written off and a new one sent to me,in store they got it written off and i would receive vouchers in the post within usally 5 days, anyway 2 days after had a call from techguys saying they could not write it off as it had been repaired and sent to dpd for delivery and should be there in 48hrs,well 2 weeks later and 3 phone calls still no netbook so back up to the insore techguys at currys, they were on the phone to get it written off because of how long this as been going on and they were still saying they couldnt because it was repaired and was in transit and shouls be there in 48hrs,4 days later still no delivery so back up currys, they phoned dpd themselves and they had no clue of the delivery or anything on there computer for my address, they then phoned techguys again to see what was going on and suprise surprise they admited they lost it and yet still wouldnt write it off as it was repaired and it was somewere in transit, even with it lost they still would not write it off,so i said i wanted something done about it today as i was well !!!!ed off now, well to be fair to them they did write it off in store at currys and i had £259 plus £7.99 mangers discretion to spend on a new one, cant believe techguys lied to me twice promiseing delivery when knowing full well they lost it for a big company they are a joke they are happy taking your monthly payment for cover but dont like the idea of paying out will tell you lies and stall you first.

Had similar thing with tech guys.
Waited and waited. then phone and chased. Only to find out they tried to deliver to us on the 20th and 21st. However they did not let us know they were coming. For the 21st delivary the courier could not find the adress. Then used we tried to deliver it for the 36 day rule (on 4th of the following month). Fair enough you tired. But let us know its ready and we can arrange a mutual time for both parties as you do have a our contact details.
Eventually we got it back about 7 days after these phone calls. I would hate to get caught in the same traffic jams as there delivery vans do.

TV broke. They rang up last Tuesday and said we deliver the next day. This did not happen and rang up to find it was not working at all and they will give us vouchers that we are waiting for. Not sure why they rang up to say they are delivering the next day if product is not working at all?
