PC World-Tech Guys Lost My Laptop

I would want more than just the cost of the laptop, there is the additional price of added software, then there is documents and files of various importance, photos of family and so on, this is not to mention the inconvenience involved.
My brother said to same too. I mean, I even told the lady I just wanted my laptop back as my son's pictures and videos were on the laptop. I backed up stuff from before but I had just uploaded pics and videos of my son's school play, pics from the snow, all my itunes ect. I don't really care about the documents and music but the pics and videos are so precious. I had just ordered a new memory stick to put all the new bits when the laptop kept shutting down.
Yes and I have made many calls to them from my mobile as I do not have a landline.
A big lesson learnt, every time I upload anything on the laptop, I will save it onto a memory stick.0 -
Sorry, but you'll really have troubles asking for damages related to missing data. No company will guarantee your data when you send it away for repair. Always, always backup.
As far as the voucher or refund goes, they can refund part of the money but don't have to refund it all, it depends on the time since purchase as they can (and rightly so under the law) say you have had some use from it, so £originalcost / xmonths = £reduced refund.
And as far as the WEH (or Coverplan) they under the T&C they provided have to provide a equivalent model matching at least your old laptop specifications and will provide vouchers to that amount.
(Also its no longer DSGi, its Dixons Retail)
*Edit*
Under the T&C of the coverplan/WEH they don't offer any sort of refund for loss of service (such as internet or software etc etc) and inconvenience is up to head office (which will be a separate issue to getting the laptop back or vouchers)
Also I'm not defending PcWorld or TTG, but you did phone at a very bad time of year just after christmas, the reason you were on hold for a long time is, if they needed to contact their team leader or get in contact with mercom (Laptop repair shop (3rd party and apparently pants at what they do(soon to be fired)) or get in contact with their in house repair staff to find out when it left or get a tracking no, it all filters back to supply and demand, there will only be a few people in mercom or team leaders or in house repair that deal with shipping and redelivery issues. The shipping and redelivery people will be snowed under with increased call volume relating to the backlog due to the weather.
Yes its bad, but your laptop is probably queued somewhere, and from what your saying if they picked up up (Just over a week ago) and was due back for the 4th thats not too bad, and while bad they missed giving your laptop back they offered pretty promptly to exchange for vouchers almost immediately. The only problem I see is the money in phoning them from a mobile (they really need a 03 no.) and the inconvenience in waiting for a few days and the time taken on the phone. They !!!!!!ed up and they admitted it and offered a resolution to the problem (If they wanted to be real !!!!!!s they can tell you to wait 42 days as per the documentation says before they offer vouchers).
Alway, always back up. Ask anyone in the business from a big box retailer to a small specialist and they always say people don't back up enough, if you did that you'd probably have a new laptop and be happy upgrading tech for nothing except a couple of missed days. (You always learn to backup after you loose something)
Like I said, not defending Dixons Retail or TTG, but your data isn't really their problem, and this time of year you'll always have delays phoning customer services, in this case from what I see, they do seem to of offered a quick resolution.0 -
they are not great at returing your laptop.
however if they do not return mine by tuesday i get a voucher. Hope they do not meet wednesday delivary date as could do with a newer pc.0 -

Unfortunately this wouldn't happen. They'll always tell you to backup your data anyway and state they can't be responsible for losses. What if they had to erase the hard drive?
Besides, the software should have CD's to put on the new laptop and how do you place a value on documents and photos?0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
The problem is, this is not the first time they have messed me around like this. This is the second time this has happened.
If it was the first time, then maybe I would consider taking the credit vouchers. However, I believe that because it has happened again, that is why they are quick to offer me a credit voucher.
There is no way in this world, that i would ever want to deal with this company.
My laptop was booked in before xmas and like I said previously, most of my stuff was backed up, however I had uploaded new pictures and videos of my son from his school play, football, xmas and the snow and I had already ordered a new memory dongle/stick but it was too late. I learnt from last time that everytime you add pictures ect you should back them up but sometimes its not possible to do it immediatly.0 -
I don't think Equanet would really concern themselves with that, as it's not a B2B transaction originally, and done through a completely different channel to themselves. And yes, you'd get the cost of an equivalent laptop unless the one you bought was a non-pristine/pre-owned/manager's special discount offer.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Thanks for your replies.
I will give them a call. I was given the chief executives email which I emailed the other day, before the laptop was lost and the lady dealing with my complaint had the email passed on to her. She said she is part of Dixons group.
The company must think I am crazy to want to take out another product from them!0 -
... and if you're successful in getting a cash payment rather than a voucher, and somebody says hey, why don't you get away from the Dixon Group and buy from Pixmania instead. . .
Run.
Good luck!0
