    Thank you Patrol and lovesgshp.
I didn't think to look at the actual heat pump. It had tripped an electrical switch. I put it back on and it seems to be working well now.

We now have someone new in there today. Changeover is either Monday or Friday for a few weeks. Then at Christmas and New Year we have family staying in the cottage which means I have more time to check over things.

The previous cottage occupants had the wood burner on because they were cold as the heating had gone off. If only they had let me know we could have dealt with it earlier. They won't be back as they are on my barred list. It took four of us five hours to clean up the filth they left!

Our gshp is an IVT Greenline HT plus. I think it is C6?

Which switch tripped in the pump?

It was on the wall next to the pump. I think the error said electrical cassette. The trip switch that went was the one for the heat pump on the main circuit board for the house. But everything is working okay now.

    Totally confused now!!
The main circuit to the pump shut down, but the pump was still showing a alarm status with no power to it?
Would need to know the error code.

My husband dealt with the trip switch. I read the error message which said electrical cassette. The error message was on the pump after the power was switched back on. It said electrical cassette. I presumed that as everything is now working that all was okay. I hope it is. It is very difficult keeping an eye on it when we don't live in the house it is installed in.

I will look up the error message I read in the instruction book when I get a chance to look at it.

The error message was the electric cassettes miniature circuit breaker has tried. It said press Ackn button which I did. Warning might went off. So
I presume all is good with the heat pump.

You need to take off the front of the pump and reset, the circuit breaker , either on the right hand side, or at the base of the cassette (P35 in the manual).
Also check the flow filter at the top of the pump.
    HTH

Edit: If the electrical cassette circuit breaker activates again after you have checked all the above, then you may need to get the installer out with a new unit.
From what you have said, then you may have no back-up heat to the pump. Look in the K2 menu for the hours additional heat has operated and the % DHW/Heating use.

I know the heating and hot water is working so do I need to disturb the occupants to reset the circuit breaker?

I do not know what temperatures you are at outside, but if you are using additional heat often then it is best just to check it out. There is normally a 60 min countdown before additional heat activates.
IMHO I would check the points out.
If you can give me the readings from GT1 to GT11, as well as the operating times it would be helpful.
i.e. my pump here has only used approx 50hrs of additional heat in roughly 10 years, ( C11 )

    Hi
There are a few things you can do when you have access. I'm not an expert but I think the below is correct. I've included service mode menu settings as per my model (IVT Greenline E6) but yours may differ.

Alarms have a date/time mark next to them. I don't clear alarms so they go back to 2007 installation and a couple of earlier ones that look like manufacturer checks.
    - Use service mode (hold right button until K3 appears).
    - Scroll to 11, Alarms.
    - Check the date/time for the electrical cassette alarm.
    - Scroll to see what recent alarms are recorded.

External circuit breaker tripping could be for various causes including the occupants flicking it for their own reasons! There are a few things you could check and confirm back here.
    - Circuit breaker amps.
    - Setting 5.2 for Electrical cassette capacity. Probably set to 2/3.
    - Single Phase electricity: 40a for 2/3, 50a for 3/3.
    - 3 Phase electricity: 16a for 2/3, 20a for 3/3.

Report the operating hours and percentages as mentioned by lovegshp.
    - Setting 7.1 for heat pump hours.
    - Setting 7.3 for heat pump DHW/Rad %.
    - Setting 7.2 for additional heat hours.
    - Setting 7.4.for additional heat DHW/Rad %.
    - Setting 3.* for GT1 to GT11.
    - +Setting 2.3 for DHW temperature.
