Never have any problem getting parts, usually sent on a overnight express delivery.
As regards to being left without heating, unless it is a major problem, then the back-up electrical supply can be used.

This is still an inconvenience that can be avoided by using a manufacturer that has an established support network that doesn't rely on partner installers.

edwh on those figures GSHP would be hard to justify on a financial basis. The annual cost of additional capital would further disadvantage heat pump options (interest on a loan or loss of interest/income on savings), or did I miss that part?

On all 3 options you have combined the heating system, but for GSHP you have 2 buffer tanks and 2 DHW cylinders as well as 2 GSHP's. For all I know this could be right as I don't know how a system with 2 units would be configured. Are you certain the quote is based on a combined installation?

I had a quick look online and the Worcester Bosch documentation mentions a cascade model where 1 heat pump supplies DHW and the other does not. If you have a very high DHW requirement this might not be suitable though. Vaillant documentation also mentions cascade.

I've not considered loss of interest on savings, as interest rates are dismal at the moment, but you're quite right that this would further disadvantage heat pumps.

The quotes are based on a combined system. I don't know (either) whether the way in which it's combined is sensible, though the guy seems fairly competent (but expensive) to me. We don't have a high hot water consumption.

COP @ 0C is about 4.5 for that model.

Have removed the spaces, but still cannot get the doc to open. Yes, you can have 2 pumps running together. We have a few installs like that.
Normally, it is 1 buffer and 1DHW.

The costs are way too high, get some more quotes, as that is ridiculous. 500 ltr DHW, 300 ltr buffer for the rad system.
