I only brought it up because Inactive described my claim regarding recommended overtaking practice back in the days before legally binding speed limits as "utter twaddle".

Overtaking isn't even taught on a standard driving test, so the only valid reference is Roadcraft and it's derivatives (IAM etc.)

The clue is in the name; nothing is taught because its a driving test. :p My driving instructor taught me how to overtake properly.
However I agree with you about exceeding the limit slightly to overtake quickly and safely.

Corrected that for you. When you talk about Roadcraft and the 'standard driving test' you'll know it is.;)

Seeing as pedantry is a required trait on these boards, I challenge you to find where anything at all is taught on a standard driving test, let alone overtaking.
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

That was my point, I think that you need to quote Lum, not me.

No, I was quoting you correctly. Overtaking is not taught on a standard driving test, which is what Lum wrote, but you called utter twaddle.

The de - briefing at the end of the DSA Standard Driving Test could be deemed as " being taught ", if the candidate had made a poor overtake, resulting in a serious or dangerous fault, then they would have the fault explained to them, thus they would learn from their mistake, thus they would have been taught something.
