I always thought it was the same £60 as the fine, but if its that much 'they can stick it up their !!!! for nothing and f off while they're at it.'
Good hourly rate for the bloke who gets to stand there and hector a roomful of people who don't want to be there...

My sentiments too - is this one of the governments quangos on the 'to be cut' list? I doubt it as it seems like it's a nice little earner for them!

The last government has created so many non-jobs for people full of bulls**t and hubris that it's unreal.

My hubbys 3 points for doing 40 in a 30zone put his insurance up by approx 100 pounds and I am sure it will increase mine when its up for renewal in March. He wasn't offered a spped awareness option just got 3 points and £60 fine, but I am pretty sure he would of choose the course over the points anyday.
I think forty miles per hour, in a thirty zone, is beyond the limits of the option.

£60 fine + 3 points or £80 + 3 hour course. Wasn't hectoring, or particularly patronising when I did one a few years back.
Some motorists would probably learn something.

    ...such as - common sense?

It can cost between sixty and ninety pounds. But ultimately, it will cost considerably more over the next four years in increased insurance premiums.

Doesn't it cost like £190 too?

For my local it's £69 (plus petrol to get there and back)

Certainly looks like it will be a lot cheaper for me to go on the course. I might even learn something.

Like how much safer it is to drive at 30mph instead of 36 on a dual carriageway.
I think the limit's only there because there are schools along the road. But none of the schools round here open on a Saturday morning. The only kids about were carrying bags of newspapers.

I can see no valid reason why anybody would recommend that someone should take the points and fine, instead of the SAC.

For many it would seem to be cheaper.

    if your a speed demon

I don't think these courses are open to speed demons, only those who are slightly over. Those who seem to need to learn the most don't get the opportunity.

I opted for the course. It cost £60 which was same as fine would have been.
I was caught on camera doing 35 in a 30. I really did not want to do the course but did not feel it sensible to take the points and put up my insurance. I have been driving 22 years, never had an accident. I consider myself a good careful driver and certainly not a speed freak.

The course was so good I would have paid for my husband to go on it and I would recommend it to any driver. It was exceptionally well delivered and I learnt some very useful things. It was not patronising in any way shape or form. There was a real mix of delegates but I would bet my £60 that they all got something from it.

If you take the points your insurance climbs by a cost similar to the speed awareness course if I'm reading this correct....give or take a few pounds?

What about increased premiums for each of the 5 years the points remain on the licence for as flyboy pointed out?
In that case, it's a no brainer - speed awareness course everytime.

this option is nolt always available in a fine/points letter but you can write back offering to do this course if theyre willing to appoint you to a SAC centre.

i worked n a business centre and the police rented the office off us to do these courses so i saw a lot of people each week coming to do them etc.

apparently you can't request to go on a course - you have to wait until it is offered to you.
