  • Satchmo1, that is a great quote.

    When everything fell apart for me last year, a very special friend left that on my pillow for when I went to bed the first night (stayed at her house) after everything had gone wrong. I treasure it and think of it whenever things get tough :)

    Lionheartedgirl (I love that name - so strong and powerful), thank you for coming out of lurkdom. I am always surprised when people pop up as my ramblings are quite maudlin at times. Ooo big dog and new name? Did you post on my earlier diary? What kind of dog do you have. Ssssh don't tell anybody but I have never read Winnie the Pooh but I often find really good quotes in various places and write them down. Maybe I should put it on my reading list. Gardens I love them, I am really good at pottering and weeding, planting and nurturing but hopeless at the initial get it all straight stage because I dont have the energy to keep going. My menieres kicks in when I do too much so heavy work in the garden would set me back several weeks. What a lovely friend you have too. She is worth keeping. Funny how one thing sticks with you at certain times in your life. For me I discovered Rabindraneth Tagore at the point I was coming out of the deepest, darkest part of my life when I found his poem Dungeon. It spoke volumes to me. I still have it pinned up for days when I am slipping.

    Satchmo Thank you. I too love that quote and it means so much when things get tough.

    Please both stay and play and contribute as many quotes as you like. Only stipulation - can you post them in purple? That way when I read back they stand out.

      Can you read my mind?????? Had a few tears this morning after finding that my cars tyres that were due to be changed in May are completely shot, through to the weave as the tracking is out. So it can't be used until I get the bacs payment and they are replaced.

      I was going to mess around with dd's to cover it but DH said no, we have another car so can manage until we can sort it without confusing anything else.

      Can you divide the garden into sections? That is what we have done, we did a patio a few years ago, then we did another bit with an aviary as DS has budgies. The rest is all "divided" up and will be done in stages too.

      I really liked that quote when I came across it. I guess that surprises can be seen in many guises. The word surprise for me usually conjures up really nice things. In reality surprises can come from left field and not necessarily be good (like your tyres). Sounds like your DH has his head screwed on. I have to admit to really missing my car but it is amazing how you can adjust and work around these things. If you can manage til the other money comes through then that would be the way to go.
      Garden - well your idea is great and that is the way I have handled previous gardens. NOT Mr C though. He is a thinker, he thinks about things too much, over thinks them and makes them too big. Added to that he is a perfectionist and a procrastinator. He will not hear of doing the garden in stages, he says that there is no point in doing a job twice when you can do it once. Hence having lived in his house for 6 years and the garden has not been touched. I won him round last year, employed two men (he was working at the time) to come along. they quoted for clearing the garden and levelling it with a digger. Laying turf and putting up a fence. We got as far as the fence being done and then Mr C's contract ended so it all stopped again. Sigh. I need to stop obsessing but days like to day I would love to be pottering in my garden. - Glad you put the iron away :)

    • The tyres weren't good, but by living frugally and being carefull when things happen either good or bad it will be OK. The bad times will be covered and the good times (such as getting paid) will be a bonus.

      Maybe you could divide the garden up and work in stages but tell MrC the overall plan so he thinks it is one big piece of work ;).

      Thanks, but tried that (insert shrug smiley). We have a plan and everything (he is an architectural technician) which is to scale, looks lovely, includes a pond, an arbour the lot. I did suggest doing it in stages and he came around to it for a while but has suddenly gone all NO it has to all be done at once. Drives me potty :)

      Love that kind of planning for the garden. My last garden evolved and changed regularly. It was just grass when me and exOH arrived, in 12 months it had a koi pond, half the size of the garden, nooks and crannies. When exOH left I couldnt manage the pond so had to get it filled in and it became a simple garden again but I spent a lot on the front garden and drive. Pots, baskets, troughs I loved it. Never gave the garden a thought when I came here but I have been here for two years now and I swore that I wouldnt have another summer without the use of it. I thought we were getting somewhere. Hey ho.

      So much for a bank holiday. Here is one of my TADA lists which I haven't done for ages. Mr C has gone North to pick up parents so wont be back til late tonight. Luckily he is taking them straight to the flat.

      Wow cherisong, you've done loads! :T :T :T Well done you! :j :j :j

      As for the garden, I know the feeling :o Similar reason why Mr Daffs has lived here for more than 20 years and the bedroom ceiling has no plaster on, the front door still doesn't open, and we didn't have a shower until I moved in and did it myself... Actually, less of a case of it all having to be done at once now I think of it, more of a case of every time you start something, it turns out something else has to be done first, and it's so tedious the first thing just never gets done :o

      <yawn>

      Sounds like you can't do anything *other* than just make a start yourself, and weather the inevitable storms... Good luck xx
