Wow, thank you 40SM. It always amazes me that people find my ramblings interesting. I promised that this one would be more upbeat but I guess I need to work on that a bit more. Love your Avatar - spaniels are one of my favouritest breeds in the whole doggy world.

Yes he is a lovely dog and is now 16 months old:) . The only *problem* we have with him is that he always has to have something in his mouth , socks, pants, lego, pens ... you get the idea:rotfl: . But as springer spaniels are gun dogs I suppose he is only doing his "job" picking things up !:D

I am also another lover of quotes BTW

Cheri - just catching up with things. Your way of thinking sounds to me to be very sensible. Maybe the best course of action would actually be for you both to make up to date wills? That way at least everything is above board, in the curcumstances you *would* need to get professional ones done I would say so that the advice you are given is correct and there is less chance of anything being called into question later on. Good luck with having the conversation! xx

Thanks EH. It isn't a problem having the conversation really. We are both very open and honest about these discussions. He is a bit behind the doors with regards to people being awkward, he is such a generous and logical thinker that he never understands why people cannot see things as they are. As such he doesnt believe that there would be any problems. So the issue is more about getting him to actually take action to ensure that the things that he would "expect" to happen do happen.
I am sure that in the next few weeks we will sort it out.
He has , today, been asked if he would be interested in a contract that would take him away again during the week, this time with no option to stay at his parents thus costing him more in rent etc. I have had a mini breakthrough because I finally got him to look at the cost benefit analysis by selling it to him logically. Ie. If we rent the flat out we would earn X this added to a local job that might not necessarily earn him as much in total would = X. Added to which he would have minimal travel time and be able to live his life instead of just driving, working and sleeping. However if he took this job he would spend X amount on petrol, X amount on lodgings, X amount on 3 meals per day and spend X hours driving. Thus meaning that his weekends would be spent recovering. He would have to work 3 very long days to make up for the travel time to and from Monday and Friday. He would only actually have (in his hand) the same amount of money as if we rented the flat and he took a local unskilled job with no responsibility so to speak thus giving him a work/ life balance.
Left him to think about it for a couple of hours then heard him on the phone to agent explaining that, given the cost benefit analysis it seems impractical. He has asked them to approach the company to see if he could spend part of the week working from home thus allowing him some work/life balance. He is waiting to hear back. So fingers crossed everybody.

Fingers crossed indeed - sounds like there are options there in any case, and far better that he has some life than he is simply working, traveling or recovering. Better for you, as well as for him of course.

I'll send some positive thoughts that things work out for you both!

  • He is so lucky to have you. You are making him see the wider picture, including the flat in it too, so that you two can have an actual life together. Sometimes it does help when you spell it out as simply as you have rather than just looking at X salary or no salary.

Sorry if I'm not around as much at the moment. Lots of work to do, plus some potential work to quote on (fingers crossed), but I'll check in as much as I can.

Thanks all. It does help when I am logical with him. He is a very rational, logical thinker and can often see to the heart of matters. However for some reason this bit has alluded him. I say it is because he has lived that way for so long that he doesn't even think that there are other options open to him.

Remember I said about that one nerve a few days ago? Welll, today it is being tested immensely. He is hard work when he is bored :D

Did a full storecupboard shop yesterday. Why is it that everything runs out at once. So spent £53 but that is for a full months worth of dried and tinned stuff. Pasta/Rice/Lentils/Flour/Sugar/Yeast/cereals/stock cubes/spices etc Also included £6.50 for a 42 washes box of Lidl own brand washing powder, which I thought wasnt that cheap but will give it a go. Also that £53 did include some fresh stuff for the week, milk/eggs/butter/cheese and vegetables. I intend to work out exactly the amount spent on this weeks part of the shop soon and work out costings as best I can. I have meal planned for the week and allowed an entertainment budget too. So getting there slowly.

ME - great news on being busy and fingers crossed for that job quote. Not sure where you are in the country but the lady who looked after Moo has some kind of events management company so if you are interested in networking and want her details let me know and I will let you have her twitter details etc. She runs a networking group for local businesses where she is too. I think she organises events across the world as well as her partner travels a lot.

  • I'm in a different area but any contact is a good contact :kisses3:. I've just started on twitter so please pm me her details x

I am guessing you are the C on Hypnos FB, you may know who I am on hers from my past ;).

We went to see MIL for her birthday this afternoon and left our old dog here to have some peace and quiet. DH had panic attack when we got home as he was laid on the floor in the kitchen door way. DH thought he was dead . He wasn't, I worked out that he had gone in to get some food and sometimes as he eats he legs get weak and he slides on the wooden floor so had probably ended up away from the bowl and it was easier to lay down and wait for us.

He's a moody old thing and even though I've put carpet down he always seems to manage to still find some floor to slip on :o.

Ah, poor dog. My old cocker spaniel was like that. One time he came in from the garden, couldnt quite fully make the step in so he had his front legs and belly inside and his back legs propped up outside :) One time I thought he was dead too but he was sound asleep. Not a good feeling.
Not really looked at Hypnos friends but yes I can easily be identified;)
