Definitely more sensible - and that's the way to be. Wehave already discussed that if we want to buy our own home, the car's gonna have to go! Not going to be happening in the near future though! :O)

    Morning All!

Well, another crisp, frosty one here!! And............ it's Friday!!! YAY! (although I am working tomorrow, so there is not that much to cheer about!)

I had a pleasant surprise this morning - logged into my online banking to check that things are just as they should be and I have more in my current account than I should have. It would appear that I have been paid more than usual!! As my wages are the same every week, I only open my payslip if I have done any overtime, so this ws the first I knew. I rang my boss and he couldn't shed any light on it (which means that it's not some secret payrise, mores the pity!) - could be a tax adjustment? But then again, I am not sure as I double check my tax coding every year! Oh well, as long as they don't want it back all is good! (oh, and it's not fortunes.... it's £43.20!! lol)

Ah, I need to renew my driving licence this weekend - they don't like to make it easy for you though! I can either go to Post Office in a nearby town and they will do it all for me including taking my picture.... for an extra £4.50 on top of the DVLA's £20.00, or I need to go and get new passport photos and send it off myself. Which ever, it takes up time and costs money!

Right, thats all my thoughts for now - oh, apart from another item listed on ebay last night!

    Morning All!

Well, I am now right royally confused!! Last night I got home and looked through the post.... there were 2 envelopes from the tax office. One was explaining that I had paid too much tax in 2010/11 and the other contained my cheque from the tax man. Again, nothing to get too excited about... £113 YAY! They calculated that I had paid too much tax on my medical expenses (company health cover). But their breakdown doesn't show any medical expenses cover at all. And now I am wondering if they think that I don't have any medical cover and this has led to the change in my tax code for this year. Or do we not pay tax on things like medical cover any more? Don't get me wrong, I don't want to turn the money away, but I would rather decline it now rather than they realise they have messed up again next year and want it back!!
Will run it passed our book keeper when she comes into work on Friday - she is the fountain of all knowledge!!

hi OBNW glad to see your face over the fence.

Nat not sure about no longer paying tax on health benefits i've not heard of a change and wouldn't expect any government to stop the policy as it fetchs them a fair bit of revenue. I'm sure your book keeper will know but it may pay to phone up the tax office (but be prepared for a long wait ie, take a pit stop, pack a picnic before you pick up the phone )

    Hi Gals!

Well, I have been thinking about it and I am not so worried about the cheque. They have all the info they require to make their calculations, so I will keep that bit of paper very safe to argue my point if needed at a later point in time.

Will have to wait til this weeks payslip appears on my doormat to see what they are up to with this years tax code. £40 odd I can cope with repaying if needed, but I don't want to rack up much more only for them to realise their mistake! (as I was under the impression that I wasn't paying enough on my health benefits as it was as my premium went up after this years P60 went in!) Who knows - but that extremely long wait on the phone can wait until another day!

Ps, OBNW - Ah, the nosey genes, I have a pair of those! ;O)

Ok - so tax update!!! This weeks pay is £1.40 higher than usual, so it looks like it is all going to settle down! Which is nice! As the advert says "every little helps!"
