'One Step Beyond' .... surely this is madness!!

Too true! Not the diary title that I had dreamt up last year.... but still, it's not too bad! ;)
Hi Nat's no I have not started new diary yet, things to tie up this week .... need to draw a line under them and my New Year officially starts next week ;)

I will be waiting - nothing new there then! :rotfl:
And young lady I want to see a weekly decreasing figure on your signature..... otherwise I may just think you are a male overweight socially challenged predator grooming me.

B*gger - my cover is blown!!! How did you discover my secret? I thought I had hidden my excess weight fairly well!!
OK OK!!! I will update my signature weekly - will amend my signature tomorrow when I know exactly where I stand with my money (or lack of!) and we will roll from there? Does that appease you? lol

Hi Nat I have subscribed and I am along for the 2011 ride :D just thinking about starting a new diary for me too. 2010 was a right off for me in so many ways, I am still debt free but no savings either which wasn't quite the plan.

Your debt being interest free is fantastic, so well done Mr OH, least everything you pay off is actually going off that balance :T

Hi Doodledo - thanks for joining in for 2011 - The more the merrier!! (or more accurately "the more to kick my a*se when needed!)

Remaining debt-free is an amazing achievement, so :T to you - It's one I would like to be able to list in the future  !!

I am soooo grateful to my OH! We worked out between us we were racking up almost £200 of interest each month, no wonder neither of us was getting anywhere quickly!

Hi, i have found ur new diary. Good luck with the debt busting in 2011 x
  • Finallly decided to do something our debts
Cleared them all when made redundant over a 18th months ago,got a job straight away but then stupidly ran debts up again.
    £9500 Credit Card
    £6000 Personel Loan
    £6800 Overdraft

Been bank of mum and dad and to parents for too long.
Decided to be a bit more selfish and start to ask for money owed to me and OH.
Swapped Credit card to 0% interest for 17 months so that should save me over £1000
Rang house insurers- managed to get renewal down by £60 and interest free over 4 qtrly payments.
Stopped personnel broadband- using the one that work provides.- Savign me £480 annually.
Bonus of £2000 and £3500 owed fron daughter will go owards one debt.
Reckon with a good wind I can pay off £1000 to debts- any good ideas on how best to tackle this appreciated.
I know to tackle the one with the highest interest first- not sure whether to clear one completely then go for the next one.
Sorry to go on,its playing on my mind, couldnt sleep and it helps to log it down
Im probably not the only one like this- just feel angry with myself for running this debt up again. We can affod it at present, but I constantly have dark cloud over me just in case redundancy ever rears its head again.
Have also started a spend diary logging all daily spends- magic pound still in purse, take butties to work.

    Night Night!!

Hi Smarties - glad you found me!! What are you doing up at 02:15 though???

Beardedlady - thanks for posting! It seems like you have a plan in place to clear your debt - so try and relax a little and get some sleep... things always look worse if you are tired, and by the reverse, so much better when you have had a good sleep! Good luck on your DF journey!

    Morning All!

In a grump (with myself) today!

Totalled up the CC last night and was shocked to discover that although I have set aside £649 towards paying my share of it.... I am about £730 short!! My actual presents came in at about the amount I expected, but then there is my contribution to purchases that OH has made!! Need to point out that I really don't have a huge amoun of money available for the next 3+ years to match his current level of spending!!

As I am on a pretty tight budget for the year, I can't see any option other than to ask my OH nicely to see if I can add the difference onto the £16,300 that I owe him (less the odd £30, I can cover that!). This way I can start repaying him today...... the only other way to do it is to see if he will wait 7 weeks for me to start repaying him. I know we end up at the same point in 7 weeks, but psychologically, I would rather start paying him back sooner rather than later!

    So, just to recap.....

    Each week I will:-
    • Withdraw £50 for spends (to include cigarettes, food, poker)
    • Transfer £10 to my savings to cover diesel spend on CC
    • Pay OH £100.00
I have also decided that any extra money (overtime, quidco etc) I earn will be stuck straight into my savings account. It can sit in there to bolster reserves for things like car tax, service, insurance etc

As I know know my total, I'm going to change my signature. This is it - no going back now!!!

So - I have been thinking..... I seem to do that quite a bit when I realise I have no money / the money I have isn't going as far as I would like..... and I have decided that I need to stop smoking. Now, I know that you are all thinking "well - YEAH!!!!!!" and I know you are all right, it's just that I do quite enjoy it (wrong I know), but I think I am going to enjoy the extra pennies just a little bit more.

So here's my plan!! ;) I am going to start smoking OH's rollies - I do not really like smoking them, so am going to use the rest of January as a time to get myself fed-up of smoking and then stop! (this will be good timing as come February I can start drinking again!! :D)

My financial thinking behind this is as follows......

Weekly withdrawal £50.00 (to include cigarettes, food, poker)

    Smoking costs approx £5.70 per pack x 3 (at least / wk) = £17.10

    Leaves me with £32.90 - poker £10 = £22.90 Just not do-able!

    Without smoking = £40.00 do-able!

So there we have it - it stacks up not to smoke (obviously!) Scary when I work out over a year it will save me £890.00!!!

And there ends my thinking! Job done! :D

My! What a productive day I'm having! lol

Have just applied for a new online savings account - this one pays 2.75% interest instead of the 0.1% I am currently getting! Still with the same bank though = MADNESS!

Have also just bought my parents christmas present (for crimbo 2010!!) - well they were away from before christmas until the new year, and they don't really 'do christmas' and I had to cancel and re-order the first one due to delivery problems - but have just got it for £20 cheaper than I did orginally = HAPPY NATS!!

I think it's "free listings" weekend on ebay this weekend, so I have also been thinking about what I can ebay at home to start making some extra pennies! Will have to go through some cupboards with OH this evening and see if we can make a bit of a pile!

I decided last night that I in my quest to be more organised this year and get out of the "why do today what can be put off til tomorrow?" frame of mind I have always been in, I will carry a diary this year. So, last year, I copied in everyones b'day's, logged all my weekends off and at the beginning of each month made a list of the cards / presents I / we need for the coming month (and sometimes into the following month too depending on my weekends off!) Hoping this will give us time to think of and source presents, rather than buy something because we have no time left!!

I registered online for our new Gas and Electricity supplier and tariff and submitted meter readings! I also cancelled the DD's for our old supplier, so I will have to pay the final bills when they come in!

Ok, so it's all been a bit random and ranty from me today - but that's just the way I am feeling - overall though I am feeling pretty positive and organised!!

I may well be back with more later!!

well done for chosing to stop smoking, whatever your reasons for doing it the results will be the same :)
did you know you were contributing to the purchases's that your OH had made? will he listen if you say in future that you can't play to his buying levels? i hope so because he sounds like a lovely chap. Good luck with ebay and the free listings hope you find lots of things to sell.
