Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 5th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Yes, I know its the middle of the night, but I've had about as much sleep as I'm going to be able to get tonight
. Am not very well
and to be quite honest have had enough of it. Woke on 2nd Jan with D&V (not pleasant) Migraine and pulled muscle in my neck. D&V went within 36hrs, Migraine still rumbling around, but my neck is sooooooooo painful that I don't know what to do with myself. Still, on to better things.
Should be my first day back at work today, but as I've not been paid since I started the job at the beginning of November I'll not stay unless I get cash or instant bank transfer today. Shame as I was enjoying both the work and the people I worked with. OH is now in bed - took sleeping pill yesterday about 5am and slept most of the day - so I had to phone in sick for him; then has taken another one this evening albeit slightly earlier. Am worried as have heard they're addictive. Will keep an eye on him.
OS wise todays dinner will be freezer food. Cooked a piece of gammon last night, so that will do the childrens lunches for quite a while and leave some snacking for us too. Thinking I might do something with wraps tonight as its quick and easy and if its something a bit different I might have more luck with the boys eating it!!! Really need to find my gloves and dive into the freezer and make a list of what I have - I'm sure I'd be amazed. Right, off to search neck problems. Hope to catch you later zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Sorry to hear of your woes
I don't really have an excuse for being up this time aside from the fact that I'd probably be pretty much nocturnal given the chance! Last night (earlier on this evening? IYSWIM) we had storecupboard chicken risotto which went down well though the bf was grumbling within an hour or two that he was hungry... such is life when you live with a bottomless pit though, and a rumbly tum wont kill him! [I'm not evil, we really did have perfectly good portions, but he's used to eating all the time, and that's something we need to change!]
Tomorrow/tonight depending on how you look at it, is leftover (gifted to us from parents lol) beef which will be sweet n soured... with some of the 2 litres of the sodding stuff we have! (It's a massive bottle/jug thing!) [with rice] - should be good.
We're skint with nothing at all coming till 10th money wise, but even beyond that the austerity won't relent in this house... we're screwed financially and things need to improve! But till then, it's cupboard/freezer raiding time! Glad I have a decent stockpile tbh xOn the up

Sorry you feeling so ill Esmf73, hope you start to feel a bit better soon.
Vampiric - I can understand skint!! I am planning to use my freezer this month to eek out the food money. I must just be more organised to remember to take it out the night before. lol.
I have sorted the majority of the kitchen now, and find I actually have kitchen tops! The cupboards are all sorted, so I now know what I have available, so hoping not to spend so much on items I already have plenty of. The amount of junk I have thrown out or recycled doesn't bear thinking about - why do we collect so much? I'm sure it's part of the money saving thing - grabbing a bargain. This year I need to stop that and only buy what I NEED, especially from charity shops.
I'm not sleeping well. My doctor has changed my anti depressant as I have been on the previous one for 2 years and it's not really as effective anymore. I'm hoping that this one will be better. I have also been offered the Bzzagent trial for the Phillips Blu light, so have ordered one of those to see if this will help me with SAD, as I seem to be so much worse during the winter. Over the past 4 years I have had 2 periods of being off work sick with it for a period of a number of months, and I can't afford for that to happen again. So I am trying to keep going in a routine as far as I can.
I'm going to finish the kitchen today, and pop down the allotment to see what's still growing down there - some kale hopefully. I'm also planning to give the chickens a good clean out today, before back to work tomorrow.
Have a good day.0 -
Morning. Wet and soggy down our way, and looks set to continue for the next 4 days.... Yuk
Back to work today and looking forward to it....
topped up the cupboards with food from Asda, lots of bargains to be had, with reductions here and there of Christmas overstocks.
Asda Diesel 129.9 which is reasonable considering the rises...
but still too expensive.
All Christmas is packed away, so school and college means all back to normal....NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Morning all,
Esmf, I feel your pain hun, I suffer with my neck too, so bad that cant move my head for a week or so, I find the best way to deal with it, is painkillers, and keep it warm at all times, also a soak in a hot bath will help xx
Feels colder here today, I am off to workwould rather stay at home, but needs must, I am doing an omlette for dinner tonight, with salad and bread and butter, so nice and easy.
Rubbish out today, and the green bin gets emptied, good job really as the xmas tree is jamed in it, also I hope they collect the recycling today, as that is over flowing, and we have 3 bin liners full too.
Soup for lunch today, fruit and yogurt for breakfast.
Marie, I hope OH feels better soon xx
Jayward, nice to see you posting xx
Donny, have a safe trip xx
Lamewolf, hope you are ok hun xx
OK better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
Work was 'interesting' yesterday, many changes being made, I'd heard rumours of redundancies but no announcement has been made. Huge changes are being made to other areas, the cynic in me can see how people will be persuaded to go without official redundances being made, hey ho, what joy. I can see both sides, we have a certain amount of dead wood, people who spend all day looking busy but not achieving anything & people who have huge amounts of time off sick. But then I hate to think of any of us losing our jobs in the current climate.
Spag bol for tea, should have had it yesterday but there was a change of plan.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all, rainy and windy here. Think it's DH day off today so will be out doing some mundane tasks today, need motor oil, desperately need a sack of spuds, may shop as i'm running low on supplies and may go and pay off my holiday. I don't think he will be too happy but not a lot else to do this weather. Going to have a good vac round today cause i did s*d all yesterday. Going to have chicken kebabs for dinner tonight so need to get marinating soon.
Hugs to the poorlies. x0 -
Morning everyone - still cold and dark but at least no snow. I heard on the radio that sections of the M74 have been closed because of it.
Just feasted on my low carb breakfast and now the shower is calling me, got to travel about 100 miles for a meeting but am looking to forward to seeing those involved so it's no hardship.
Last night I took some lambs liver out of the freezeer (I love lambs liver) and will do a stir fry with loads of veggies tonight.
Hope the lurgies are going and that everyone is well and warm.0 -
Morning all
Have been up since stupid early o'clock this am, felt rough last night so went to bed early and then woke early and couldn't get back to sleep, still don't feel that cracky but have dosed myself up and will be heading into work, I've only got to work until lunchtime so not too bad.
Dinner last night was a quick affair and DH didn't want anything big as he's still not well either, so he just had a small snack, but he slept much better last night and hardly coughed at all so hoping he's on the mend.
Dinner tonight should be pie, but I didn't get it out of the freezer so have some chicken portions in the fridge so will probably have them instead. Tried to get a drs appt yesterday and have to ring today or tomorrow for an appt either this afternoon or tomorrow afternoon, will keep trying until I get one as I need to get sorted.
Plodded along yesterday and did get a lot of the washing done, also got the sleeping bag washed and dried at the laundrette, now just need to tackle the ironing mountain. Will be hoping to get some baking/cooking done on my days off if I feel up to it.
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning All.
I hope those that feel poorly look after themselves and get well soon.
Kids are back at school today so I plan to study, I need to go into town and check the banks and pick un a few essentials for the OH, his money so not coming out of my budgets.
Not a lot OS wise today, made Krispie cakes yesterday for lunch boxes so the treat pot is full for a while. Lasangne tonight and I am going to stretch the mince to make beef cobbler for later in the week!! Still doing ok food wise, fruit bowl is full and the milk and bread is doing well. I have a few slices of LO bread on the side ready for Bread pudding.
Have a good day all.
