"it’s a short paragraph in the manifesto: Investigate reforming public sector borrowing requirements to free councils to borrow against their assets in order to build a new generation of council homes and to allow them to keep all the revenue from these new homes. Over time we will seek to provide a greater degree of subsidy as resources allow to increase the number of new sustainable homes."

    My bolding.

Forget their words and look at their actions.

No one has stopped right to buy.
No changes have been made to ASTs and retaliatory notices (because they are essential to maintain the current private rental market on which housing depends)
Current government wants to remove long term council tenancies (and that includes the Lib dems)
  • Not remove as in take away secure tenancies from those who already have them but introduce ASTs for new tenants until they have proven themselves to be responsible and not anti-social. This is the way my LA is dressing it up, in any case.

And when in power, what did they do?

The same lib dems that promised no tuition fees?

They can all talk the talk.

Of course they don't do what they say they will - they're politicians:grin: It is nevertheless their stated policy, and it was *policy* to which N79 was referring.

Indeed - I was referring to the policy actually carried out, not the "policy" that parties pretended to have to try to win votes.

Either way you look at it, any party that claims to want more social housing but won't end right to buy (which removes the best of it) is not to be taken seriously!
  • I think I may have found somewhere for us to move to, so we can avoid going into a B&B, the only problem is the timing.

Our S21 expires 5th April, The house is ready to move into in mid April, BUT it is a three bed and we are not eligible for a three bed until 4th May so the council are not going to approve it on the rent deposit scheme and it is above the LHA for a two bed but WELL BELOW the LHA for a three bed

I am going to hope the landlord will wait 2/3 weeks until we become eligible and can move in

I'm keeping fingers crossed as it is the only one I have found since I started looking around in Jan that within the LHA limits and it is pretty damn perfect, we could be really happy there

Otherwise we have made the decision to move out of London to avoid going into a B&B, we have had to be in shared accommodation before when we fled domestic violence and we both agree that there is no way we could cope again living like that, we barely held it together the first time.

    Good luck with it.

I don't know what the significance of 4th May is, but I hope the landlord is happy to wait.

(Hope 4th may is not the due date, because I understood that babies need to be 1 year old before they can be allocated a room.)

  • Children of different sexes can share a room until the oldest one turns ten, my daughter turns ten on 3rd May

I don't know about babies having to be 1, the council told me to go and view the three bedroom house anyway but not to commit to anything. I am hoping they wouldn't have said that if there was no chance we would be eligible for it
  • From the LHA website

    Bedroom LHA Rates

LHA rates will be further broken down into ‘Bedroom Rates’ that will apply depending on the size of the household, including any non-dependants. Size criteria will be based on allowing one bedroom for:

every adult couple ( Married or Unmarried )
any other adult aged 16 or over
any two children of the same sex
any two children regardless of sex under age 10
    any other child
The number of living rooms, kitchens and bathrooms is ignored for the purpose of the size criteria.

Doesn't say anything about a baby having to be over a year old before they get their own room, which is good otherwise we'd be facing another house move in a years time from a 2 to a 3 bed

After not hearing from the letting agents after the correspondence written about here I received an email today from the manager who was responsible for earlier harassment.
I am writing to ask you to confirm with us your intention to check-out of ********* at 9 am 5th April. The check-out has been booked for this time but if you need it to be later on that day please
let us know as if the clerks cannot fulfil their duties at that time they will make an extra charge to you.

Could you please let us know upon receipt of this letter that you will be leaving at the arranged time and expiry of your contract.

Even though that is when my S21 expires we have nowhere to move to and have been advised to stay put by the council.

    What should I say? Thanks
